y'know what really pissed me off when i was little? watching all these action figure cartoons, where the kids in the commercials made'em look SOOOO cool! these kids would get together, in groups of 3 or 4 young lads, and set up the coolest battle fields!! they'd have pits all dug out in their backyard for the bad guys secret lair, or tree forts set up for the good guys to drop nets from. they'd have flash floods at 3 oclock, tornados at 5 and volcanos errupting just before dinner. ... all i had was boring grass

I only had one friend that loved toys as much as me and it would be such an event when one of us had saved enough money to buy a new toy! I, too got pissed off, especially with MOTU adverts, the kids had these big fibreglass mountainsides in their bedrooms where they would play He-man! On the UK ads, a little subtitle would come up saying backdrop was not for sale. My garden was pretty cool, I had a pond for Mer-man, Bushes for Mossman and a whole load of trees for the special MOTU Stuntman challenge - He-Man took some classic swan dives from the tops of some the trees!

i dont think disclaimers were around in america when i was little. they're prolly only 5, or at most 10, years old. but, MAN were they misleading!!! i had grass, that was about it. and, any time i tried to dig up an underground lair, i got yelled at. THAT never happened in the commercials!!! my one and only gi joe toy was a vehicle called "snow cat," and was, essentially a jeep on skis (sorta like a huge snowmobile). the kids in the commercials had this thing jumping ramps and skating across ice... it even defended the youngest against snowballs. so, what'd i do? i brought my new toy outside during the first snow fall, set up a small little mountain for it to slide down and... the shit broke!!! plastic freezes and cracks in snow... no one frickin told me that!!! ...sigh...

GI Joe or Action Force in the UK, used to have great figures with a lot of articulation and weapons but the vehicals sucked arse! I got this boat, looked cool in the commercials and on the box - in real life it looked like a piece of crap plastic!

My brother and I had a sandbox and a garden we used...in the winter we had an ice world. On the other hand Bobo ya see there is this thing called imagination. My brother and I had our own version of the JLA vs the Legion of Doom even though we didnt have all the characters.... We let our younger brother be all the female characters (oddly enough he is gay).

I didn't need the fancy backdrops, I had a very strong imagination. Strong enough to allow Wolverine, Captain America, Iron Man, Spider Man, Ringo Starr, Tarzan, and Mister Spock to join the my Super Powers figures in the Hall of Justice.

AND i thought i could control the wind.

Keep thinking that! It has to be said, that the plastic used for the playsets and vehicals of GI Joe was really low grade!

I always thought this too... My playtime was never that elaborate! I played by myself, too. I had no brothers and never played with friends. But I believed that I made the sun come up every mornin. I used to pretend some of my toys were other existing characters that I didn't have. Heh. [ 09-08-2001: Message edited by: Disco Steve ]

I had a twisted sense of play. Every other adventure, Robin would wind up being killed in some sort of freak accident, and the Hall of Justice would occasionally blow up.

Heh. My entire bedroom used to be the JLA Watchtower. I had a trophy room, living quarters, meeting room... heh.
