Hey, all. For those not in the know, I pay my bills by writing computer books.
Back when I thought I was going to be writing for Marvel, I pitched a book idea about digital comics production using Photoshop, Illustrator, and QuarkXPress. Full color, glossy paper, lots of art.
My editor and I now find ourselves in need of proof of concept to sell the publisher. This amounts to three or four two-page spreads incorporating sample text and art. The final product should look like page proofs. They don't have to be camera-ready, but they should look more or less like what you might see in an actual book.
My time is kind of stretched for the next couple months, so I'm kicking the door open to any graphic designers among us. I need a lad or lass who has some knowledge of print design and access to QuarkXPress to design the book and lay out the pages.
I'll write the text, and the art will be supplied by comics pros, so the designer won't have to generate any original artwork.
This person will get a coauthor or designer credit.
There is no pay upfront -- the proof of concept is all on spec. But if the publisher likes what we do, a contract will follow. The editor's already on board. It's just a matter of convincing the bean counters.

2. QuarkXPress is necessary.
3. The job will start immediately.
