I have heard, through many avenues, that the 20th anniversary of Crisis might be a big one. And, as Grimm, thedoctor, and I have been comparing notes, look at the mounting evidence: - The rumored Hyper-Crisis, ever since Morrison's days on JLA.
- Hal bringing Ollie back from the dead
- The creation of a "second" universe at the end of OWAW
- The "Return to Krypton" storylines from the Superman books.
- The appearance of a woman claiming to be Superman's daughter, in his books.
- DC's sudden move at grabbing most of the industry's top names.
- The Adventures of Superman issue where the Mxy twins talk about retconning, and, hitting a "Reset Button" on the DCU.
- The running theme of Silver-Age concepts popping up throughout the DCU, not to mention outright Silver Age nods with Birthright, and so on.
- Flash #200 : Barry's cryptic comment to Hal/Spectre, "You're getting closer and closer, Hal..."
And, now, Superman/Batman #2....
S P O I L E R S
....the appearance of the Kingdom Come Superman! He suddenly appears, trying to kill the current Clark and Bruce. Not to mention, the ominous warning:
"IT ALL HAS TO END, TO BEGIN!!"
So, anyone else think that there is something going on? Are these all just coincedences? Or...
...are we looking at a Hyperverse bleed-over?
Opinions and comments?

So now Elseworlds characters are appearing in the regular universe?
That sounds horrible. I'm glad I didn't try out Superman/Batman.

I hope the appearance of KC-Superman isn't an isolated plot move otherwise I'm going to be mad. I like Superman/Batman, the book has talent and a lot of potential. But the end of issue 2...I mean WTF man? All I have to say is: Why?

Exactly my point. A plethora of DC titles have begun hinting in their own ways about something not quite right with continuity, and, the universe in general. SUPERGIRL was definitely right up there.
Whether this is a one-time gimmick, or not, who can say. I just think that there have been too many similiar instances for it to be JUST a coincedence.
Anyone else have any examples from titles they read? You know, unexplained happenings that have nothing overall to do with the current plotline, but seem to be leading towards something more?

The way JLA/Avengers is going, storywise, both companies could use it as a crisis event to revamp their universes...
The new powergirl origin may lead to another loophole...there have been a few other JSA instances as well...

Don't forget Dr. Fate's encounter with the Phantom Stranger in #1 of his mini as well as Wally's in Flash 201. When they start pulling this dude out regularly, shit's going down.

Again, another good point.
BTW, is it just me, or, do the KC characters look....wrong...without Ross drawing them? McGuiness' stuff is nice, in it's cartoony kind of way. But, it's pretty hard to see a character rendered by Ross' paints broken down to Manga-esque standards....

We don't know yet, but will within the next several months. prometheus thinks powergirl is supergirl. I don't think so as Arion said peegee's mother would need her in the near future.... I am confused. One of my friends was saying peegee could be the daughter of linda and superman from supergirl...
But that's the kind of stuff everyone is talking about...continuity has been flung out the door recently at DC...and that doesn't happen by accident...

I didn't know about that.
Actually, I was referring to Kingdom, with the last page epilogue showing the GA Superman trying to burst out of that domed city.

Anyone read the solicitation for Superman #200? It says something about presenting the "possible future origins" of some DC characters... The Bat-Man, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, I think.

A shame that the old DC Boards are no more. Every so often i'd (exasperatedly) suggest that DC do a Crisis-style event where not only does everyone FINALLY remeber the Crisis (the REAL one mind you, not that contradictory flawed post-Crisis-Crisis) but at the same time they realize that they are living in a flawed contradictory universe that is a pastiche of the old DCU, the new one and a hodgepodge of false starts and retcons and paradoxes. In order to both explain and hopefully rectify a lot of the gobbeleygook of the past 20 years. A universe that would eventually have to fall from the weight of it's own dissaray.
Glad to see it may actually turn out this way. ![[biiiig grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)

There was an issue of Superman recently with a Flash teamup. It was brief. It was pointless. It sucked.

Y'know, I'm a crazy cat, granted, but I really don't think that was the Kingdom Come Superman.
I say this despite the fact that he was obviously from the future and wore the KC Superman insignia, because:
A. Whatever Batman and Superman are going to do to cause the future Superman to come after them, will be done in the near future. Of course, that's just an assumption.
B. Combine A with the fact that KC Superman has already met present day Superman and Batman before, in 'The Kingdom,' and had no animosity against them. In fact, he was rather cordial to them both.
C. Future Supes said that present day Superman and Bats were going to make a mistake that would cause him to lose them all. Ma, Pa, Jimmy, Perry, Lois, and Bruce. KC Superman lost Jimmy, Perry, and Lois through no fault of his own (though, I suppose, he could have seen it as his fault), and definitely through no fault of Bruce's. He also never lost Bruce.
D. The Kingdom established that there are infinite timelines within hypertime. It could have been another Supes with the KC shield.
Just me playing devil's advocate. Could have been a screw-up by the creative team. Could be that I'm missing something and on the wrong path.
If you can correct me, please do.

I too don't think that the Supes in S/B is the Kingdom Commer.
For one thing, he's a lot more bitter. He just doesn't seem to be the same guy. I think it's just a Superman from the future who uses that shield.
As for other weird things, I mean, freakin' in Superman/Batman, Lex has just set a billion dollar bounty on the S-man.
Will all this evidence we have... something will be going down... I'm betting it will be after Azz and Lee's 12 issue Superman run, and then Lee and Loeb returned for six Batman issues. That will free him up to pencil Hypercrisis or whatever it is. Either him... or they get Perez for one final hurrah...

I agree that that Superman isn't the same one from KC.
The "S" shield is used when people showa future Superman, as is the grey temples. Even Batman Beyond used the "S" from the KC Superman (They did change the color from red to white though) so I think it's just excepted that an older Superman with less hope or what not will don that "S".
I personally think that this future Superman is referring to whatever is going to happen in Superman/Batman, with the whole Krytonite Meteor storyline.
I don't think another Crisis is needed. All that is needed is a DCU Bible. Something that tells writers what's what, and strong editors who do their jobs keeping Continuity flowing right. therwise Barry's sacrifice was meaningless.

I think Batman will be faced with the desicion to kill Superman and save the planet, or put Earth into danger by saving him. That's the ghist I got from future-Supe's comments.

Yep, buy Dark knight Archives #1 - or Batman #1 which is considerably more expensive...and you'll see...

Could it be that writers, artists and editors are just using ALL the tools available to them in such a way to expand the creativity of their stories by not being pigeonholed into a pre-determined "continuity"?

I always thought that if they were decent writers to begin with, then they would not need to disreguard it. They would be able to turn out a great story working with the continuity. IMO. They should just at least show some effort that they tried. I am not saying follow it all the time. If they did there probably wouldn't be Kingdom Come or Superman:Dark Side (I think that was what it was called).

Well, it depends on what you're refering to:
There's Superman: Dark Side
and then there's Superman: Red Son, which I think might be what you were refering to as Superman: Dark Side isn't all that well known and wasn't as hyped as Red Son was :)
