A variation on a running theme..what are your favorite books that you actually own that aren't reprinted, in TPB form, etc? However you want to classify is your business (runs, singles, OGN, etc)..I just wanna know what you have that you love...Original Graphic Novels would count..just not reprint trades....

Oh God, where to begin...these are runs which to my knowledge have never been reprinted anywhere:
Thriller 1-8 by Robert Fleming and Trevor Von Eeden Timespirits by Steven Grant and Tom Yeates Starstruck by Elaine Lee and Kaluta the Uncanny Hellstorm 11-21 by Warren Ellis and Leo Manco War of the Worlds by Don McGregor and Craig Russell Challengers of the Unknown 1-6 by Loeb & Sale Gemini Blood 1-9 by Chris Hinz and Tommy Lee Major Bummer by John Arcudi and Doug Mahnke/Tom Nguyen Chase by D.C. Johnson and J.H. Williams/Mick Gray And one single issue: Puppy Action! a hilarious one-shot that came out sometime in the mid to late 80s. It was like Office Space with cute puppies instead of people. It was nasty and cynical and funny as hell. I forget who did it, but the art looked an awful lot like whoever did the Sniz 'n Fondue cartoons for Nickelodeon.
And profh, all those SHIELD/Nick Fury issues have been reprinted, in full color, by Marvel a couple of years ago...

I'm sorry I should have been more clear..If they have been reprinted fine...you could say Crisis, just not the Crisis limited hardcover or 100 page spectaculars that are all reprint... I would just hate to see people listing all TPBs or, like I would, a lot of archives.. Sorry for the confusion..

Favorite single issues that I own...(in no order)
New X-Men 114; Grant kicks off his view of the X-Men with a bang. Stunning. I was hooked.
Legion of Super-Heroes (v4) 4, 5; the death of Mon-El and the birth of the stunning Mordruverse. Ferro Lad's a hero in any universe.
Giant Size X-Men 1; the start of the Modern Age of Comics.
Authority (v1) 14; love Quitely's visual take on the Avengers.
JLA 1; Morrison and the JLA--a great moment for classic Super Hero Americana.
Iron Man 128; My name is Tony Stark, and I am an alcoholic.
Doom Patrol (v2) 19; Crawling from the Wreckage indeed.
Fantastic Four Heroes Reborn (1996) 1; love Jim Lee's visual take on the World's Greatest Comic Magazine.
I think that's about it, for now.

MY GOD! I have that comic-- it was HILARIOUS!!!!! During a period where my tastes were changing and I was more inclined to check out "cartoony" and "funny" than any more of this "dark cynical violent" crap, that a blast of left-field "What the hell is THIS?"
But TRUFAN ADVENTURE THEATRE and its sequel BOFFO LAUGHS tends to loom higher in my memory. "Sister No-Mercy, The Ninja Nun! For her, killing is just another habit!")
"And profh, all those SHIELD/Nick Fury issues have been reprinted, in full color, by Marvel a couple of years ago..."
I have the 2 Steranko TPBs. These were DECADES overdue!!! They did a very interesting job on the color, but some of the special effects got all screwed over. Worse, the linework-- so typical of ALL Marvel reprints-- was blurred.
But keep in mind-- the JACK KIRBY run has NOT been collected yet-- nor have any of the Frank Springer, Barry Smith or Herb Trimpe issues EVER been reprinted!
It's one of my all-time fave series, but I always WISH they'd have gotten a steady inker / finisher for Jack (he did just layouts on most of the episodes). Can you IMAGINE if Wally Wood had worked with Jack on S.H.I.E.L.D. The mind boggles... After Steranko left, NOBODY seemed to really have a clue what they were doing. the ONE issue by Steve Parkhouse (who much later wrote DOCTOR WHO comics) and Barry Smith (before he got good!) was the single real highlight of the end-period. Unfortunately, it was the beginning of a multi-issue story, and neither Steve or Barry returned for subsequent issues! I point this up because MANY years later, Bob "Why say it in 5 words when you can use 50?" Harris ripped off the plot for his overly-long and completely WRONG-HEADED maxi-series NICK FURY VS. SHIELD. (Oh, God, was that BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD.)

Wow, Prof, you've seen Puppy Action! I'm glad someone else remembers that book...
And you're correct, the pre-and post-Steranko issues of SHIELD haven't been reprinted yet. I always kinda liked the Frank Springer-illoed issues, esp. the Five Million Megaton Explosion issue and the one that had the Xmas tree cover, with Nick, the Hate Monger and others reflected in the ornaments.
The last non-60s SHIELD I ever bought was the Starlin/Chaykin Marvel Spotlight (or one of those showcase books). That, and the first issue of Ennis' heinous Fury for MAX. The revival attempts since the 60s (except the Starlin/Chaykin thing) have been pretty wretched, IMO.

My all-time favorite issues (collected, stand-alone, story arcs)
The Green Hornet, no. 1, vol. 1. (1989)
The Green Hornet, nos. 1-12, vol. 1, collected in deluxe hardcover format. (1990).
BATMAN 581-582, featuring the story of Jeremy Samuels, and the first appearance of my favorite new Bat-villain, Zeiss. Lots of Matrix references in this 2-issue story arc.
I also love "BATMAN: JAZZ", issues 1-3, a LOTDK special.

Yeah, I agree with that. BD was a fun comic, and was a brave risk by DC - back an entirely new character concept. And it paid dividends - BD was one of the top 10 selling comics in 1986. What happened after that, I can't quite say.

Black Hole 1-10 (or whatever the most recent issue was). Hitman #39 (I think that's the one with Superman). Skin, a graphic novel by Peter Milligan and Brendan McCarthy (it might be a trade, I dunno). Shade The Changing Man 1-70 The Invisibles (all three volumes) Smiths Adventures in the Supermundane by Farel Dalrymple (of Pop Gun War fame)

giman: I thought the point was to list favorite single issues. Sounds like you've listed a good portion of your whole collection.
Can you pare down some of that to specific issues?
And I'm curious: you separate the Byrne/Claremont X-Men. YOu don't have or don't like the Claremont/Cockrum X-Men?

Ooh! Ooh! I got another one! There was an issue of Secret Origins that came out sometime in the mid to late 80s which had an Ambush Bug story by Giffen and Robert L. Fleming and a Trigger Twins story with art by Trevor Von Eeden, the first (and last to date) time since Thriller 7 that both men worked on the same comic. I've kept it for sentimental reasons. I've also got a few one-shot appearances in the 70s Marvel Premiere-type books, one that comes to mind is Howard Chaykin's Monark Starstalker, which has only seen print once. Also, there are the Bill Everett-illustrated issues of Sub-Mariner, especially #57 which re-introduced his uber-sexy character Venus. ![[humina humina]](graemlins/love.gif)
