The show has just lost something. It feels hokey and boring and cliched. The change in cast and producers is very heavily felt and a real shame. They seemed to have scrapped the wonderfully intricate and slowly evolving storyline of the first 7 years and are now just doing Superman jr. I keep looking for Geoff Johns' name, it feels that painful to watch. Maybe they'll pull it together, maybe not. Either way I'm happy for the first 7 seasons (a very respectable run and the longest of any Superhero tv show) but if things don't improve I'll be hoping for a mercy cancellation.

i don't put much stock in ratings one way or another. especially after Arrested Development struggled while Everybody Loves Raymond last so long.

I love the new season, it's the best fucking thing ever. It's been ridiculously great since the season started. Fucking insane. Tom Welling is the new Marlon Brando. I look at this show, and it's so good it makes my eyes cum.

She's probably still just crying in a corner somewhere.

she's not dead, she kinda is just crying in a corner somewhere. she left clark a "don't follow me " video towards the end of last season, when the hot lil piece of ass that plays her left the show.

i think all of those folks willingly left the show - except, maybe, pa. but he's had trouble with the law since the day he was born.

i never really understood why people would leave successful tv series, even if the show isn't at its best anymore. seems like it'd just be easy money to collect -- you can continue doing movies in your off time!

Jerry Orsbach used to give lectures to actors about that. He would shout, "NEVER leave a tv show on your own especially if it is doing well but even if it isn't."

Being a working actor is a very hard thing to do. Very few of them are rich.

They all remember George Clooney and John Travolta but forget David Caruso and Shannon Doherty.

To be fair, however, sometimes the TV producers will fuck over an actor and prevent him for her from making a movie that would have changed their lives.

Tom Selleck comes to mind. Even then, however, Selleck was smart enough to not quit "Magnum."

Brosnan was supposed to be Bond in the 80's after Moore instead of Dalton, but NBC used his Remington Steele contract to hold him up.

Maybe they sat down to watch the show one day and felt so ashamed they almost killed themselves?

Yep. I almost mentioned that one too but I figured it wasn't as good an example since, unlike Selleck and Indy, Brosnan eventually got the part after the show was cancelled.

7 years is a long time and seems to be a magic number for successful sci-fi shows. look at the successful Star Trek shows, Buffy, X-files. In all of those shows the main cast wanted to walk after 7 years. and the X-files is proof that it's not a good idea to keep going with a reduced cast.

I'm kinda glad that Lana is gone. I always thought she wasn't doing anything else but whine whine whine whine.

Lex however, is another story. And why cut supergirl out of the story?

In any case, the show should have ended by now and have become something else. I think someone once mentioned it should have been turned into a Metropolis-esque show a long time ago

Lana being gone doesn't affect me. Chloe is so much hotter. Lex not being there kills things, especially with everything taking place in Metropolis. Rumor had it that Rosenbaum and the rest of the cast were going to be paid less. That combined with his desire to do something else (like theater) caused him to leave. The new chick, Tess Mercer, might be interesting, or forced, I dunno. I'm not sure about Annette O'Toole. There just wasn't much story with her beyond the forced romance between her and Lionel.

Lana was a shitty actor in an annoying role, but the effect she had on Clark was important. That gave it the duality of choosing between hero and normal. It also was great when they got together finally and he had to deal with the adult problems of the failing relationship. I think she should have left him because she couldn't handle the powers/alien nature. That would give him the push to create the secret identity.

yes. Tess is a terribly annoying and one dimensional character, Lex however was very layered and a great opposite to Clark after he went from a nice guy to a real villain.
 Quote:

i think they just wanted to get rid of the parents as part of Clark growing up but since Clark can live anywhere and see them daily and it would be out of character to have a falling out they had to do something.
