Meanwhile, this is Mortal Kombat we're talking about. The original "violent" video game. I'd say it's more believable that Warner Bros/DC Comics didn't want their characters (who are such a HUGE attraction to the innocent little kiddies = sarcasm) connected to overt violence. That's a guess, but it's perfectly plausible...
Superheroes like Batman, I get (which is why the heroes don't have fatalities). But if Warner/ DC didn't want the JOKER connected with overt violence, then maybe they should've required The Dark Knight to go through a few more passes in the editing room.
