I have been on the receiving end (har har) my fair share of times. at first I would get pissy about it and complain about getting picked on, but anymore I find myself laughing along with most of it. it's about the art of the insult - any iconolast tard can throw together a half-assed photoshop of me, but it takes a nöwheremän or a jaburg to craft something genuinely inspired. you need to be able to laugh at yourself if you plan on getting through life without becoming an insufferable asshole and/or a serial killer.

and let's face it - some people just plain have it coming. however polite or well-mannered catfuck might have been, he was clearly not right in the head. numerous posters have come and gone who simply couldn't hack it for whatever reason. we are our own quality-control mechanism, and these boards just plain aren't for everyone. but whether or not you decide to stick around and figure out how to make it here, bitching about getting made fun of isn't gonna help your cause any.

Saying in publuc that its killing him and in private saying something else is quite laughable, as surely it should be the other way round if he wants people to think he had won anything.


Also, on the subject of his lover, you say its vindictive prying, but I say that it would only be prying aif we had gone looking for this without him first telling us about his "loss", and would only be vindictive if he hadnt lied to try to get a sympathy vote.

You say his break up was tough, and thats why he did it, but that to me does not justify trying to get unwarranted sympathy out of people, not only by lying that his lover had died, but even going as far as to make up a cause of death.

Okay, yeah. I like Beardguy, but I can't dispute that. And at one point or another, we've all had our sacred issues that we got overly hot about and were called on with a good round of abuse, to snap us back into humility. And I've accepted that to a degree, that it isn't always handed out fairly, but it averages out in the end.
In Beardguy's case, and a few others like Princess Elisa, I think there's a hell-bent determinedness by some to bring out the ugliest possible reaction in even the nicest person. Which on one level, proves that no matter how nice someone is, they're still capable of fighting back with a vengeance when pushed to the wall. But I think that cornered potential is just a given, and don't really see the point in pushing someone to that level. Or passively accepting it.
I often think the "nice" people on these boards get the maximim abuse, because they often won't fight back. And then if they do, they're labelled as hypocrites by some abstraction for just defending themselves.

In another example, Prometheus' wife, or M E M's real name (as taunted by G-man's alt) are considered off-limits, and when they voice objection, everyone backs off (and I agree with and even openly advocated the backing off as well in M E M's case, and even in the case of Whomod's wife/alt, loathesome as I find Whomod).
But conversely, absolutely no boundaries are respected regarding G-man's personal life, or (another example) my Phillipine girlfriend. In the topic about Kabul Zick, the folks who piled on G-man, conversely had no problem with similar abuses from their side, pointed out in the topic.

So while I'd agree for the most part we all take our share of abuse, and some handle it better than others, it still seems there's some for whom the abuse runs especially high.
Although at times, even those who are defended at one point from things deemed over the line, these same people are later given no-holds-barred treatment.

So I'm torn, because I don't like the overly mean stuff. It's ugly, and I just don't like to see iton the boards. But I guess it's just reality, in RKMB microcosm. Even those who dish it out most here seem to get their payback at some point. And if you stick around long enough, you see that, while often ugly, it is for the most part fairly distributed.

...Snarf isn't a bad looking guy. He's also a nice guy, probably good company that a lot of women would welcome. So despite his possibly not appreciating it, he has no reason not to be confident. As I said before, I was 26 when I had my first serious relationship. Once you've flown, it's a lot easier to fly.

I think for the most part, you were very assertive and fearless when you left your job. It's commendable that you have that confidence, that it didn't get to you, and you can just move on.

But in one aspect, you arguably were like Snarf, in that you vented frustration about what happened to you, that a female co-worker stabbed you in the back, and vented that your boss unfairly came down on you for bitching about work on your own website. (In your boss' defense, it was right out there for him to see, exactly what you thought of him and work. In YOUR defense, you didn't name names so the company was openly humiliated online.) But it's a fine line.

The difference is you said "fuck it, it happened, I'm moving on".

Whereas Snarf (at least in his opening post), sunk into self-doubt and was discouraged from trying again. I agree that wallowing in self-doubt isn't going to help him to his goal, IF that's what he's doing.
