If I remember correctly, they changed that twice.
I'm sure they changed something when they did the special edition version, then changed it again for DVD.
I think the point they are trying to make is that Anakin essentially died when he was young, so he reverts to the earlier incarnation, where as Yoda and Ben stayed young.
I also think it was just a way of linking the two trilogies together, just like when they shoehorned the two droids into the newer ones! anakin died an old man after he killed the emperor.

I think what Lucas was saying is that the young Anakin was the representation from before he was tainted by the dark side.
I still think its stupid anyway as when old Anakin appeared as a ghost, he shoulda had his limbs missing n shit!

another thing that i couldnt help but remember how Anakin slaughtered those young jedi and just because he saves luke from the emporer yoda and obi are all ass kissy with him.
