The fact is that Kirby's estate now holds all of his rights under US law concerning the characters he's created or co-created in the past. They are simply exercising that legal right. Are they doing it for money? Hell yes! Who could blame them considering how little they were paid for creating huge, money making characters and books? Honestly, what would Kirby or Siegel's heirs do with the Hulk or Superman if they owned them outright? They couldn't possibly publish successful monthly comics to keep earning off of them. It's to get the companies that have invested great sums of money into marketing and promoting those characters to give them a bigger piece of the action.
