Locke episode tonight. Katey Sagal will be back.

A big improvement over last week's episode which isn't surprising. Locke episodes usually move the story forward in major ways. Kate episodes usually grind it to a halt.

Still not loving the Earth 2 sequences, however.

It was better but I'm waiting for the connection between the two worlds. The "Locke is meeting everyone on the Island" shit got old once Rose showed up.

I really don't give a shit about that blonde kid. No more of this shit. Answer the questions from earlier seasons and get it over with.

I assumed that the blonde kid was reincarnated Jacob. Like you I really didn't give a shit, however, except to think "if that's somehow older Aaron transported to the island I'm going to punch the TV."

The kid is Aaron is Jacob. DUH. I thought we went over this.

What happened to the other crash survivors? Shouldn't there be like ten to fifteen other original assholes who were just background props?

Everybody was interconnected before. Way back from season 1.

In the first Hurley episode about his bad luck, you learn he owned the box company John Locke worked at.

Yes and, of course, Locke's dad was the guy who conned Sawyer's family.

And wasn't Rose on the walkabout that John tried to go on in the original (earth 1) continuity?

Jack was the doctor in the OR when the car accident happened with his future wife and Shannon's father.

Jack chose to save the woman and Shannon's father dies starting that whole mess.

I don't think she was. I think Bernard took her to see a faith healer.

Also Rose and Locke did have that connection that the island healed them both.

Yeah, I think you're right. For some reason I was thinking that the faith healer was connected to the walkabout.

I was expecting John Locke showing up but Rose showing up at the temp agency and Ben being a teacher was to much of a stretch for me. That's why I'm hoping all of that crap is some kind of dream or fantasy.

Rose didn't bother me. Ben as a teacher (like Ethan being a doctor last week) was waaaay too "fanfic" for me.

Was Ben a teacher? Or was he the principal?

I forget.

Ben being the principal would make more sense. Because then it is the Ben/John chess match that has been going on since season 2.

Here is Ben, the principal of the school. King of his own little world.

Now here comes a substitute teacher that seems to be getting along quite well with everyone.

So now like on the island they will compete for the attention of the faculty and students.

Ben was a teacher. But your analogy still works. He's the regular teacher and John the outsider (ie, substitute).

Todays eye rolling moment was brought to you by the bearded asian dude.

The Earth 2 sequences are starting to show a little relevance (namely, the little bits that seem to point to a bleed through from Earth 1 [ex: Jack's confusion at the appendix scar]) but overall I still feel like I could fast forward through them, watch an ep in 20 minutes and feel like I'm getting the important stuff on the show.

I also got the impression that Hurley pretty much told us all we're going to find out about the skeletons in the cave last night, namely, that they were survivors who got stuck there during one of the time jumps. We might not ever find out specifically who "Adam and Eve" were were but my money's on Bernard and Rose.

Sayid episode tonight!

Another fine episode of Sayid bad-assery.

However, I gotta say: the idea that ninja dude was a garden-variety businessman before Jacob stuck him in the temple was a little weird.

well, ok. it's not locke. it's apparently not sayid. we got a few left on the list o'candidates.

maybe it will be the unspecified kwon, which i believe to be jin and sun's baby

and, for the record, i really enjoyed tonight's episode. the first of the season i really liked. prior to tonight's, and with the exception of most of the locke episode, i'd actually been somewhat disappointed with how ho-hum this season has been. the acting, the premises, the "oh, there's other others now, and a lighthouse we never saw" and "here's a gun, gimme that cab! -- hey now that you're nice, can you take me to meet my adoptees", etc.

tonight could be a turning point to fun again!

This episode was written by and directed by the same team that did the awesome "jughead" episode from last year. "Jughead" was the episode where season five hit its stride and I kinda knew where they were going with that season.

Tonight's episode, the best yet this season, was almost as good as "Jughead". I just want the big connecting moment where both time lines make sense.

Yeah, definitely one of those episodes where after it ended you felt like (a) something major happened; and (b) you wanted to see where it was going.

The final scene of Smoke-Locke, Psycho Claire and Dark Sayid...and Kate with a "what the fuck did I just get into" look on her face was a helluva money shot.

It also appears, based on Claire's dialogue with Smoke-Locke ("why do I have to go? why not send Sawyer?") that she and and he definitely at least think Sawyer is now part of the "injustice gang." Whether that's true or not (or Sawyer is now running in essence the greatest con of all time on Smoke-Locke) remains to be seen.

One question, however, I thought I heard Claire suggest two different people to send into the temple: Sawyer and one other. Who was the other suggestion?

BTW, vis a vis the timelines, maybe I'm wrong but so far it is starting to seem as if Earth 2 is, in fact, an arguably happier place for most of the major characters (Jack, [maybe] Kate, Hurley, Locke, Claire, Sayid).

So this begs the question: Does that mean that the problems in their lives were caused in one form or another, by Jacob's tampering? And, if so, maybe Smoke-Locke is right about Jacob not being the good guy?

i think "happier" is a bit difficult to judge. we've only seen one or two day's worth of these people's alt-lives for comparatives, and they don't seem all that great;

kate - convict and fugitive
claire - kidnapped, then abandoned by adoptees
locke - wheel-chaired and un-special
jack - still missing dead dad, divorced, odd relationship with son
sayid - murderer, without his love

not to say i think island life is happier, but i dont see one being better than the other, and i'm not sure the intention of the two storylines is a "it's a wonderful life" mirror.

Arguably true with Kate and we haven't seen Earth 2 Sawyer's story yet. But regarding the other ones we've seen:

claire - ended up keeping her son and seems glad she did
locke - wheel-chaired but accepts it, has a job he likes and a MILFy fiance/wife
jack - not a drunk, has started getting past his dead dad and is working it out with his son.
sayid - love of his life still alive, has a family and a job that doesn't involve killing people for Ben Linus.

you're making far, far (far!) too many assumptions based on the very, very (very!) little we've seen of earth 2



all we've seen is her in the hospital having early contractions. we don't know if she has the kid or keeps the kid or if she's happy about it.



accepts it, but doesn't like it. was fired from his main job. has only had one day in his other job, which is as a substitute, so who knows if he'll stay or enjoy it ... or if alt-ben tries to kill him.



he still hasn't found his dad, has mysterious "i dont remember this" surgery scars, is divorced, and has a patchy, at best, relationship with his son, that he only sees 2 days a month, and whom he just learned enjoys the piano.



love of his life... with someone else. despite the fact that they both love each other. that doesn't sound too great. plus, he knows he can't be with her because he knows he's a bad guy, i.e.; hasn't made peace with himself, as he had on the island.

...he also just murdered three people.

Sayid didn't murder anybody in that scene. He shot three criminals who were threatening his life after they kidnapped him and threatened his family. Pretty clear case of self defense.



I realize this is supposition on my part (which is of course half the appeal of Lost-trying to guess what's happening) and that is why I originally said "arguably" happier and not "definitely" happier.

very well, i retract "triple murder" and replace with "triple killing", with supplemental winky happy face. still sounds like a rough life, regardless of emoticon.



ironically taking this to g-man-response-level extremes, i wasn't debating so much that you were being non-factual, but moreso that you were making assumptions on things we almost literally have no idea about. it's like making assumptions during the third episode of the first season; you can guess what the "jungle monster" could be, but you can't assume claire will have a healthy baby then in earth 1 anymore than you could now in earth 2.

yes, but as repeated, through inferring, you're being a dumbsnarf about your speculation. they're not lost-like guesses, where you string stuff together from past scenes and observations, with even a remote form of logic. you're just spouting rays of rainbow-colored wrong with no basis (exhibit gay: "claire - ended up keeping her son and seems glad she did")

thus, we stand by, waiting patiently, for your begrudging acceptance of your rightful role - the dumbsnarf - forever lettered as the modern day hester prynne, with emboldened bald virginity, and peppered layers of fail.

All I've ever wanted was an episode of Lost to understand completely, and have that episode understand me, and I'm starting to realize that that is never going to happen.
