Soaring costs force Canada to reassess health model: Pressured by an aging population and the need to rein in budget deficits, Canada's provinces are taking tough measures to curb healthcare costs, a trend that could erode the principles of the popular state-funded system For The "Now They Tell Us" File I recall, over the last 20 years that socialized medicine has been proposed in the U.S., that the advantage of Canada's socialized system (i.e., rationed care) has been its proximity to the U.S. system, where Canadians can come across the border and pay out-of-pocket for private care in the U.S. No doubt the lack of that option after 2013 (if Obamacare is not de-funded by the coming Republican majority, in a last alternative to stop Obamacare) will cause further decline in the Canadian system.

Canadian Premier Travels to U.S. For Heart SurgeryBut... but... Canada has socialized medicine, which is a better system, right? That's why Democrats want to socialize medicine in the U.S. So if care in Canada is better, why is this Newfoundland Premier, one of the elite of Canada, coming to the U.S. for his surgery? Gee, could it possibly be that... HE thinks his care would be better in the U.S. ?!? There's a lesson there somewhere. About which system politicians want, when it's their life, and not someone else's.

Funny how the mainstream media is only reporting on the failures of the Canadian system AFTER congress rammed through the Obamacare bill.

Majority of Workers Will Have to Change Health Coverage: - During the health care debate, President Obama promised that those who liked their health care plans would be able to keep them. Critics of the legislation countered, however, that this was an empty promise, because the sweeping changes would nonetheless prompt employers to change health plans.
Score another point for the critics.
The Associated Press reports that, "an early draft of an administration regulation estimates that many employers will be forced to make changes to their health plans under the new law. In just three years, a majority of workers-51 percent-will be in plans subject to new federal requirements."

Health care reform could pressure already taxed system: - The federal health care reform passed in March is expected to stimulate demand exponentially by extending insurance coverage to tens of millions of Americans who didn't have it before.
That could put tremendous pressure on a system that is already bursting at the seams, especially outside large urban areas. Crowded Emergency Rooms Expected To Get Worse With HealthCare Overhaul: - The latest health care laws may mean longer wait times in overcrowded emergency rooms. Many people believed the health care law would actually alleviate the crowded hospital emergency rooms. There has been a misconception that people without insurance were the ones responsible for the emergency room crowding, but a recent study disproved that theory. The majority of people that visit the emergency rooms across the nation have some kind of insurance, whether it is private or state paid.

More polls show health-care reform gaining popularity The Kaiser Family Foundation is the latest survey outlet to see positive movement on the health-care reform bill. In their May poll, 41 percent approved of the bill and 44 percent didn't. Their June poll has flipped to 48 percent approval and 41 percent disapproval. That's the fourth poll in a row to show improving numbers for the legislation: The AP and Gallup polls both flipped from plurality disapproval to plurality approval, and the NBC/WSJ poll registered a slight (2 percent, which is within the margin of error) improvement in the bill's numbers, but remained at plurality disapproval.
These are fairly small changes in the numbers, to be sure. But then, the numbers on health-care reform were always fairly closely divided. It's possible we're just seeing random shifts in the same direction in multiple consecutive polls, and if so, future surveys will bear that out. For now, I looked at Pollster.com's aggregation of health-care polls, and the last time the bill did this well was in September of 2009, right after the president's big speech.

Kaiser is the worst hospital chain. They kill people for the fun of it and they're a joke to anyone who goes there. Their opinion should not be taken seriously.

I think there is a certain percentage of large healthcare companies that views socialized medicine as nothing more than a form of corporate welfare that will pay off with short term gains and help drive off competition. Kaiser may be one of them.

Well it's not really their opinion but the people they polled opinion. Plus that poll also seems to be in line with other recent polls showing support for the new reform growing.

Just curious: is there a pattern to the days you believe in polls and the days you don't? Is this like "odd/even parking" or something?

Not seeing the a quote that even you could spin to support your allegation G-man. Guess that's why you just did a link?
You've posted polls previously G-man. I don't expect you to post them now that they don't say what you want but don't be a baby about it please.

You've posted polls previously G-man... I've made it pretty clear that I only post them to demonstrate (in essence) that you cherry pick polls to skew things your way. Don't believe me? I'll make you a deal. You stop posting about public opinion polls and I will too. Not a single one. I'm ready and able to talk about issues and not polls. Can you say the same thing? Personally, I don't think you can do it but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Personally, I don't think you can do it but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Why do you feel polls are somehow invalid G-man, I would be interested in hearing the reasoning. As touched on above, there's little doubt that one side can cherry pick the polls he thinks support his side. Furthermore, these polls are put forth without, for example, consideration of the methodology of the poll as part of an examination of its validity. As such, polls aren't going to prove anything here except, perhaps, for valid polls close to election day that might predict the winners. Your polls aren't convincing anybody you're right and my responsive polls only result in you saying 'a republican did it too' (paraphrase, not actual quote). As noted above, I'm tired of that. I'd rather discuss the issues and not whether or not you're cherry picking the polls. And I'm really tired of "a republican did it too" as your excuse for said cherry picking. Therefore, I made my offer, posted above. I'm taking away your excuse. So what's it going to be?

Death Panels by Proxy...Palin was right. And, now, Liberals Fear Obama "Death Panel" for Social Security: - Earlier this week, I wrote about how liberals were increasingly concerned that President Obama's deficit commission would end up recommending cutting Social Security.
Right now, I'm at a panel at the Netroots Nation conference dedicated to this very topic, called, "Obama's Social Security 'Death Panel' Engaging Activists to Defeat the Drive to Cut Social Programs."
The moderator of the panel, Nancy Altman, of the group Social Security Works, opened up the discussion with the dire warning that the threat from Obama's deficit commission is greater than the threat posed to the program in 2005, when President Bush drove to create voluntary personal accounts within the program.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/10/...re-law-proceed/ A Florida federal judge rejected a request on Thursday by the U.S. Department of Justice to dismiss in its entirety a lawsuit challenging the federal government's health care law, paving the way for a legal battle involving 20 states, Fox News Channel reported.
U.S. District Court Judge Roger Vinson declared that he would allow parts of the lawsuit to move forward, while others do not merit a day in court.
Opening arguments have been scheduled for mid-December, Fox News Channel reported.
whomod said: I generally don't like it when people decide to play by the rules against people who don't play by the rules. It tends to put you immediately at a disadvantage and IMO is a sign of true weakness. This is true both in politics and on the internet." Our Friendly Neighborhood Ray-man said: "no, the doctor's right. besides, he has seniority."

Virginia Wins First Round of Anti-ObamaCare Suit- A federal judged has sided with Virginia in its lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the national health care law, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli just announced on Twitter.
The Virginia suit is one of the two main legal challenges to ObamaCare, the other one is led by Florida and involves 19 other states.
Opponents of ObamaCare had been hopeful, because in his August ruling allowing the case to proceed, U.S. District Court Judge Henry Hudson, an appointee of George W. Bush, embraced the argument that ObamaCare represents a novel use of the Commerce Clause that has yet to be considered by the courts.
The decision will now be appealed by the Obama administration.
