I would suggest the Moffat episodes as the best in each series.
EMpty Child/Doctor Dances
Girl in the Fireplace
Blink
Silence in the Library/Forrest of the Dead
Time of the Angels/Flesh and Stone
that gives you solid episodes and a bit of an arc with the Angels and River.
