I'm still a little confused by this trade. The Yankees' more pressing need was for bullpen help and bench depth, so they addressed it by trading for...a "switch" hitting bat whose primary position - 1B - is barred by Teixeira and whose only other position - DH - means that Posada's knees have to hold up to keep him in the lineup. I think the Kearns trade helps with the bench, and Kerry Wood, (BIG) if healthy, will be a boon to the bullpen, but the Berkman deal seems silly for a team with no problems scoring runs. I know that the market for relief pitching was ridiculous in terms of asking price, but this move still makes little sense.
