It's ironic that this would happen to Giffords, who from many politicians I've seen interviewed --Republican and Democrat-- all say she was very non-partisan and very pleasant to work with.

If it were one of the scorched-earth Democrats or Republicans, it would make the slightest bit of sense that she was targeted.

Since this guy's obsession is fiat currency (although he couldn't even summon the intellect to articulate an opinion on the subject) the likely people for him to target would be guys like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Allan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, Henry Paulson, former president George W. Bush, or Barack Obama. Or in his own state, John McCain for voting the TARP bailout.

Giffords' focus was border security. It was the equivalent of him attacking a tomato farm to protest the meat industry.
