i really enjoyed the "oooh, new LOST!" feeling i got from the 10 minute bonus episode. i'm not sure i'd enjoy an actual spin-off, in theory, as it couldn't help but water down the original. but i'm sure i'd watch it.

that selfish reason aside, there's really no justification for ABC to do it. in fact, looking at the world of TV since 2004, i honestly don't know why LOST wasn't canceled. to the studios' credit, they really stuck by it. yes, the ratings were nice, but on a steady decline since the first episode of the second season - i'm not certain the show ever won it's timeslot, let alone appeared in a weekly top ten. it finished 15th place the first season, and 30 something the last.

add in the fact that it cost brazillions every week for the whole cast, dedicated writers, etc, and the sad truth is, LOST may very well be the last great show on network tv.

as long as shows like dancing with the stars continue to be ratings juggernauts (and cost like $500 a week to make) the days of shows like LOST are gone.
