Nearly ten days after reports surfaced that Russell Crowe was reportedly set to play Jor-El, the father of Superman in Zack Snyder's upcoming installment of Man of Steel, Deadline has revealed that Julia Ormond may be boarding the production as the superhero's mother. The Legends of the Fall actress has reportedly been offered the role of Lara, Kal-El's birth mother from Krypton. His Earth-born parents have been already set with Diane Lane and Kevin Costner set as the Kents.
If Ormond and Crowe sign on the dotted line (both are still in discussions), they will join Henry Cavill (Superman), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Michael Shannon (General Zod) and Antje Traue (Faora).
With a release set for December 2012, director Zack Snyder is expected to begin production shortly, based on a screenplay by David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan. Batman franchise rebooter Christopher Nolan is overseeing the development as a producer.
