Caribbean Monk Seal The Caribbean monk seal, also known as the West Indian monk seal is a species of seal native to the Caribbean sea and the Gulf of Mexico. The male Caribbean monk seals could grow to a length of 3.5 meters and weigh up to 440 lbs, while the females were a bit smaller. The last recorded sighting of the Caribbean monk seal was at the Serranilla Bank in the western Caribbean Sea in 1952.
