http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/20...movie-for-2015/ Less than three years after buying Marvel for $4 billion, The Walt Disney Company has announced it will acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in cash and stock. With the news arrives word that a new Star Wars movie will be released in 2015.
Current Lucasfilm co-chair Kathleen Kennedy will become Lucasfilm president, reporting to Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn, and serve as brand manager for the Star Wars franchise. In addition she will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, including Star Wars Episode 7, “with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.”
“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” Lucas, who’ll continue as a creative consultant for the franchise, said in a statement. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney’s reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.”
Under the terms of the deal, Disney acquires full ownership of Lucasfilm, including its live-action film production, animation, visual effects and audio post-production.

I honestly don't know what to think. I'd like something to take the stink off of the franchise left by the prequels, and that's more likely to happen with Lucas gone. They could let it sit as it's own thing like Marvel and give us another Avengers level movie. But I'm more scared that we'll get Bruckheimer crap and Gore Verbinski will Pirates of the Caribbean the franchise.

The Pirates movies were actually epic and enjoyable for adults and kids! Lucas is a great ideas guy but his writing and directing is crap. I just wonder how this is going to affect Dark Horse comics...I'd imagine Disney might want Marvel publishing Star Wars comics again and if that happens will D.H. close up? I figure Star Wars comics are by far their biggest cash cow.

The real question is, will Disney finally release the original theatrical versions of Ep. 4-6 on DVD on anything but a limited basis?

i still love the idea of a star wars 7-9, featuring the original cast 30 years later. its the characters people care the most about, by default, plus new adventures!
as to the direction... meh. i think anything lucas does gets fanboy shit upon, regardless. disney will leave a negative taint on it, if the internet deems it so. avengers was pretty meh, considering "it has to be awesome because iron man is fighting thor" aspects. neither marvel nor disney (nor lucas) could step on that level of fun.
this just seems fun to me, because disney is AMAZING at franchising. star wars stuff is already featured all over the disney theme parks, but now it can be everywhere! spierman can fight bobafett while goofy... i dunno... falls or something. that's fun! ...right?
