Public Safety director Jon Tooke says at least 25 percent of the city on the Hudson River across from Manhattan remains under water. He estimates at least 20,000 people are stranded and says most are being encouraged to shelter in place until floodwaters recede.
Tempers flared Wednesday morning outside City Hall as some residents complained the city was slow to get food and other supplies out to the stranded.
Tooke says emergency personnel have been working 24/7. He says the "scope of this situation is enormous."

I remember back in 2009 when Ketsana/Ondoy hit, and I didn't have electricity for days but had access to the internet via my phone, which can be recharged with AAA batteries. Spent 3 days wanking off to porn on my cel.

Had a conversation with PJP today. His power is out, but he says they're all okay. He's further away from the coastline, which means he got wind and rain but not the 13 ft. surge that NY and the NJ coast got. He can't talk on his phone but he can send texts.

 I think that's in Hoboken yar, that's hoboken from my balcony. the tower in the upper right is the new WTC freedom tower. the river raging in the main part of the picture is the hudson river. ...typically about 12 blocks from my apartment, and not typically forcing cars out of its way. snake had already escaped from new york, so we missed our chance. no power, no internet, and most damning, no cell service! there was a good 3-5 feet of water surrounding our building until it receded enough for us to sneak out a side exit. now, there's a mini gas crisis going on, with everyone all pissy at the stations. i'm at my in-laws house now, so they at least have all the power stuff. honestly, wasn't too bad. the worst part was absolutely the boredom. looks like the jersey shores got torn up pretty terrible, including monopoly's boardwalk!
