Snake Dance – Ooberman

Ooberman went back to the drawing board after the failure of their unfocused first album and set themselves the task of creating music that would properly articulate the moods and feelings in their lyrics. Following a dream Danny Popplewell had about Russia, the group began to incorporate an Eastern European influence into some of their recordings. The odd mix of whimsey and sentimentality that clouded their output could occasionally grate and is probably best heard on their well-judged mini-album Running Girl

Snake Dance - from their final record Hey Petrunko! is a berserk piece of Russian punk - An echoey Gypsy folk melody, played on a lone violin, that erupts into snatches of brutal wiry guitar and frenzied Cossack percussion.
