Threatening war when we don't have the military forces and logistics to fight a war in Ukraine, is very similar to Britain's "war guaranty" to defend Poland in 1939.
Hitler knew Britain didn't have the military forces to back their threat,of war, and invaded Poland. Hitler expected Britain to sue for peace, having no viable way to attack Germany.
Instead Britain and France declared war on Germany. Starting a world war, far more than either side intended.
