The assassin was an evangelical, registered republican who voted for Trump who had a hit list of democrats that included Waltz. GOP influencers ignored those facts and ran with conspiracy theories about Hortman being targeted because of one vote. Never mind the other elected democrat and wife he tried to murder or all the other democrats on the hit list. Some Republican officials have been shameful with their reaction to this btw like Mike Lee who made jokes about it while pushing lies.
