.

Y'know, at this point, I rarely if ever even buy new comics, I have about 13,000 comics and have pretty much everything I could want. I frankly hate the writing style of new comics, and find the current art (with rare exception) very generic and sterile for the last 25 years or so. So I really don't give a fuck about variant covers. But I frequently see variants at ridiculously high prices when I browse on Ebay or MyComicShop.com
Even so, I respect DC for making an effort to reign in the more greedy retailers.

DC can control price gouging when they come out, but a year or 2 years or 5 years down the line, retailers can always whack people later. If there's only 10 or 25 or 50 or 100 copies, it's limited supply, and the price will naturally go up to take advantage of demand. I think there's limits to how much those prices can be controlled.
Whatever the market will bear, and all that.

I haven't clicked on the link, but assume this relates to Absolute Batman and retailers jacking up the prices.

And now I have clicked on the link, and it is to do with Absolute Batman.

For me, laissez faire capitalism should rein. Retailers should be able to sell for what the market will pay, provided of course they are not engaging in collaborative price fixing. Retailers have a hard enough time of it. If they want to up the price, so be it. DC looks suspiciously like they are price fixing, which is anti-competitive behaviour.
