[AAAHHHH!!!] [AAAHHHH!!!] [AAAHHHH!!!] [AAAHHHH!!!] [AAAHHHH!!!]

Well, maybe not Donna, but one of the "founding members"....every other Titan is accounted for. This will kill the two books and launch two new books - Teen Titans and OUTSIDERS. Nightwing is going to the OUTSIDERS.

Titans/YJ = Graduation Day

Surprise surprise, fans of the low-selling status quo are bleating at the DCMBs.

Hmmm. The lineup for Teen Titans greatly resembles the lineup for the cartoon. Imagine that. Not that I'm complaining, this may be what the book needs to survive.

I'll complain. I think that if DC would actually spend some cash on TITANS and get a good artist and a good writer, it would result in better sales for the book....which we haven't had since Marv W and Tom Grummet left in the LAST series. Instead, it's going to spend money relaunching the title into something that alienates the people who have been reading it since the beginning.

It was never about the line-up. It's always been about the characters.

I don't blame people for complaining on the boards. I'll use the example again:

Let's take the current Justice League, get rid of everyone, bring back Plastic Man, Catwoman, and Green Arrow, and call it Justice League. Not really the same thing.

Holy shit...I can't believe I'm actually interested in buying a Titans book. This looks great. and I haven't been a Titans fan since the glory days of the old school Wolfman/Perez book.

The only thing that I find weird about the new Titans line-up is the fact that it's basically the original YJ team with the "new" part of the Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans thrown in for good measure...

It's kinda neat to see Impulse taking up Wally's old Kid Flash togs, and I dig Superboy's new "minimalist" look costume (meaning instead of a costume, it looks more like regular street clothes, a look I've always thought would be neat for either him or Superman).

From the looks of the YJ part of the new team, it seems as if they've aged a little, not much, but at least a few years...has DC made an effort to present them as a little older than the eternal 13 or 14 that Tim Drake and Bart Allen seemed to be stuck in? If so, this could be interesting (at least for me) because that was one of the things that I loved about the Wolfman/Perez book, that the elder members such as Dick Grayson, Wally West and Donna Troy were presented as being or slowly becoming young adults...

I find it also weird that it's nearly the exact same team roster as the original Wolfman/Perez line-up, only this time several of the key spots are filled not with the proteges of the original JLA, but instead the younger counterparts of their sidekicks, or in some instances, (like Impulse) the "sidekick" of a former Titans member. Sorta ironic....

While I admit this looks pretty cool, it'll be a shame to lose PAD's YJ...And this Outsiders book doesn't really look too exciting...

The fanboys are out in force at the Titans board. "No Donna no buy" seems to be the mantra. Never mind that it could be a fucking brilliant comic. The sheep are on the loose.

You all miss the real problem here:

It's Judd Winnick. He's a terrible writer. It's going to suck.

Geoff Johns's writing the TEEN TITANS book. Judd's writing the other.

but honestly, im wary of both.

1. Judd hasnt impressed me with his lead story to the Green Arrow Secret Files comic. nothing from story jumped out at me. it was utterly average.

2. Geoff's killing himself. he's writing Hawkman, Flash, Avengers, half of JSA and now Teen Titans.

not to mention that he always has a side project.

thats five and a half titles. SIX, as far as im concerned. and his apparent burn-out has already pushed me out of reading all but Hawkman.

his first Avengers issue bored me to sleep.

but Flash had plenty of personality. among the rougues, that is. unfortunately, none of that seemed to gravitate toward the lead character.

and JSA has turned into a shell of what it COULD have been. there have only been FOUR storylines in its three and a half year existence where the villain DIDNT have a grudge against one or all of the members. they keep fighting the same revenge driven antagonist. JSA is a one-note comic.

Johns is burning out, yet he (and his fanbase) doesnt see it.

i disagree because Titans already had good writer (Tom Peyer) and a good artist (Barry Kitson). and the book had sold well before DC decided to cancelled it.

I don't know that they sold well. The figures being tossed about was 23,000 for YJ, and 22,000 for Titans. Rumour has it the guillotine figure is 17,000. Sounds like these titles were barely scraping in. This of course is the real reason for the shake-up. If they go above 30,000 for a few months, and gradually slide back down to 23,000, then it was worth it.

SIN, the Titans relaunch never sold well. For the past couple of years, it's head has always been near the chopping block.

And while you may think Peyer and Kitson are good, I have to disagree with that. The stories have been terrible - "Ghost Dance"? "Drug World"? No thanks.

While Barry is a good artist, he's not GREAT artist, someone that will grab you with just the name. This is what I think the title needs...instead of a complete relaunch, just spend a little money and put some attention-getters on the title. At this moment in time there is nothing about Titans that will make a non-reader pick it up in the store to even browse it.

I'm a fan of both Tom Peyer and Barry Kitson, but I was unimpressed by their first arc on "Titans". I was hoping they could still turn the book around, though.

isnt this the same story with Grayson's past revamp?

but this time its worse. DC has to pray this that new readers comprise of individuals who havent caught the flak of the company's shady TV show marketing ploy.

the DC board members have set the forums ABLAZE with great disapointment over the cancellation and suspicion over the new plans.

this wasnt the case before when everyone felt lots of optimism on the eve of Titans #1.

you might say that the quality has dropped on the title since then, but do you really think Johns can do better? his work ethic has taken its toll creatively. Hawkman remains the only Johns title i read (from JSA, and Flash, which i dropped) and thats only because James Robinson is involved to make sure the direction stays fresh. enough people feel this way and i dont think the situation will improve now that Geoff chose to oversaturate his schedule.

i think you let "chemical world" color your outlook on "ghost dance". his intial story wasnt even his. he had to tie up loose ends from FAERBER'S run.

i think you confuse BIG NAME with actual TALENT.

take JSA, for instance. do you believe it took off solely from the names of Goyer and Johns?

no, not really. when you take another look at the creative line-up marquee for the first five issues, youll see why.

same for Titans. Grayson's a pretty big name, and the sales perservered until they fell due to creative slack, namely Faeber.

this may not happen with the Tee Ts though. not if Geoff stays indefinately. if readers know the name, theyll stick around no matter what.

I always forget about the TV tie-in.

DC are capitalising upon this, hoping it will bring in new readers, like with Justice League.

As for fans setting the DCMBs "ablaze"...it seems to be a group of about 30 people, and no more. Plenty of other websites are more positive.

It seems every decision is only made now to coincide with a movie or tv deal, it's absurd. John Stewart takes over as GL(and in today's issue he mentions joining the Justice League, of course), Marvel's newest Ultimate book stars a young Daredevil and Elektra, and this. I wonder how many genuinely good ideas are thrown aside to make room for these gimmicky marketing ploys....
