I like this. However, I think it would be a better test of character to have him develop his death wish before he discovers his immortality. I think he should discover it when he tries to commit suicide a few times and it doesn't work out. That, to me, would be a lot better than a simple 'death wish' developing as a result of his immortality, giving us a chance to see a good internal struggle of fighting this 'death wish' and coming to terms with his own immortality and the futility of his desire.
