Comics, in general, have become rather depressing. I Have fun reading them, but the stories contained within lack that fun.
Take the Flash, for example... Nothing too fun about miscarriages! Well, not for the general reader. Possibly you were cheering when Zoom killed a couple of Flash's unborn kids, but you're warped anyway.
And really... what was so simplistic about the Silver Age comics? Far fetched concepts? Yeah. But there were ideas tossed out in one panel that would require a twelve part maxi-series to explore today. (Wish I could remember what writer said that quote in an interview)
