So they didn't suck during the last years of the Jurgens era? C'mon, I love those guys... but the shit they were writing at that time is unbelievable. Better than anything in the Super-titles I've read since then, though.

As I explained to you back then, the problem became even bigger when they tried to appeal to Silver Age nostalgia AND Byrne nostalgia at once. They didn't ignore Byrne's origin, they avoided it. It was never deleted, it was still there, and there's only so much a writer can do if you're trying to avoid something as vital as a character's origin. To top things, they were also trying to appeal to Silver Age nostalgia. What resulted from that are comics that Byrne fans and Silver Age fans don't like.
