RKMBs Forums .::Robegories::. Comic Books Read any of the short-lived Martian Manhunter ongoing from a couple years ago?

I'm considering picking up some back-issues, it only ran for 36 and was written by John Ostrander the entire time as far as I can tell. So was it any good?

I enjoyed it.
Nothing fantastic but worth checking out if a decent price.

Ostrander always writes good solid stuff I enjoyed his run on Firestorm.....

I enjoyed some of his retrospective stuff like writing about MM in his time with Giffens JL explaining the Oreo addiction.
And his father-like relationship with Fire was covered in another story.

Ostrander's Suicide Squad was one of the best series ever.

Didn't catch MM - never liked the character. Heard he did some interesting things with it though.

I've only read the first dozen issues but it wasn't bad, although I've heard a lot of criticism about the series. I definitely liked the climax to the battle with Malefic (around issue 8 or so).

Not quite as good as his Suicide Squad or Spectre, but not the worse series I've read either.

There was a nice MM/Spectre team-up in one of the "flashback" issues...

But, the series peaked too soon with its zero issue and 1 Millionth issue coming out (those were great...but, after that...what story was left to tell?)

The series suffered a little bit because it seemed the JLA writer never bothered to check what was going on in the MM title (as the current JLA writer didn't as well...)

I read the first six issues, and I picked up the aforementioned JLI retro issue (which is a great single issue). It was ok. Nothing to complain about, but nothing stood out about it.

I really liked this series. Not really a fan of the character but after Ostrander's work on Suicide Squad & Spectre I had to check it out. He did a good job making MM unique. Multiple identies (including a cat & a supervillian persona), the guardian of the southern hemisphere & MM's presilver age history & Martian heretige really made this series a great read. To bad it didn't take off & hope we see Ostrander's take on other heroes.

Plus, it picked up on a lot of the threads left open by the far-too-short CHASE series about the Justice Experience and J'onn's doings during that time...

Yeah, but if ya remember D. Curtis Johnson's posts over at the old ODCUT, He said that Ostrander screwed up everything with the Justice Experiance. Never was J'onn supposed to be a member, and that revelation fucked up all of DCJ's plans.
