I tried to watch some of that tripe. Apparently, the caveat was, that was also a hit video.

Seems pretty heavily weighted to the last 5-10 years too.

Yeah, these things tend to skew to the current, often because of the ages and interests of the voters.

It's not a terrible list, though. It's not definitive (it couldn't be), but there's enough on it to get people talking, which should be the whole idea of these things anyway.

Those VH1/MTV greatest list really don't mean anything. They're not even fun to watch.

In my opinion, the right song was #1. The rest is just sorta [eh... i dunno... ] for me.

Whatahell?? No Steely Dan? That's crap. At least U2 made it twice... not quite sure how "MMMbop" would even make a Top 1000 list...

It's a list representing the last 25 years - the Fab Four had broken up by then.

The list got you jokers talking . . . so I've done my job. [mwah hwah haa]

And since all of you are complaining here's your task for the list: Remove any five songs and replace them with your own choices...from 1978-2003.

#1 is correct, so I'm happy.

I think for the most part, they got the right bands, but the wrong songs for those bands.

#2 should be Michael Jackson, but not Billie Jean. "Thriller", "Beat It" or "Bad" would all have been better choices, in my opinion. #5 should be "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" or "In The Name of Love" or "With Or Without You".

I might say "Every Breath You Take" deserved to be higher than #9, but at least it's in the top 10, as it should be.

#4....is just wrong. I like Eminem, actually, but that's completely wrong. If it's going to be any Eminem song, and I don't think it really should be that high, it should be "My Name Is" or "The Real Slim Shady".

Sorry, there are a helluva lot better songs for #1 than anything the poor little rich boy, Cobain did.

/agrees with Franta

I don't see how U2's "One" would be on the list. Pretty much no one even knows what song "One" is. I would think "With or Without You" would have that spot, or "Where the Streets Have No Name," or even "Sunday Bloody Sunday."

In fact, I could be wrong, but it appears to me that there is NOTHING on this list songs from "the past 25 years" that is actually 25 years old.

For instance, even though Elvis Costello released "Radio Radio" in 1978, its not here, nor is "Pump it Up." Patti Smith's "Beacause the Night" (also 1978) is nowhere to be found. Neither is Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London."

Of course, to my knowledge, none of these now-classics had a video.

They should have just called it the "best songs made into videos since MTV started." At least that would be truth in advertising.

IIRC, "Who Are You" and "Heart Of Glass" date from '78, and a number of tracks look to be from 79/80. But again, these things tend to skew towards the present day. How else to explain "8 Mile"?

r3x29yz4a - hanson was a good band. for their time and their age, they were very talented. the only reason many people - mainly boys- won't admit that, is because when they first came out you thought they were hot. yup.

as much as a i hate eminem i guess hes talented. but i dont agree with him being number 4, especially when joan jett is number 36. next to alicia keys. wow thats retarded. and i dont agree with tlc being on the list. at all.

i think nsync should be up there. like 'bye bye bye.' that was huge. 'video killed the radio star' as well should be added. weezer 'buddy holly' but that could be my tainted views. and maybe spice girls 'wanna be.'

From a musical perspective, I guess I'd say Hansen is better than most of the bands I really hate. They write their own songs and actually play instruments, so already they're above Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, and all the "boy bands". They also don't claim to be punk, so they're better than Blink182, Sum41 and Good Charlotte.

I still don't see what the big deal was with them, though. I kinda missed the ten minute period where "Mmmmbop" was considered the catchy-est tune ever, just wasn't the kind of music I liked.

I agree on N'Sync and "Video Killed". Those were huge.
