Gang, I was wonderin', if anybody would be interested in re-doing some of the 'classic' adventures?, maybe some new stuff.......with the old characters, or maybe some old stuff with new twists?
just wonderin'.......

I'm up for it, as long as we make sure to label the stories as "MBL: something", and forget about sticking too closely to the continuity of the past -- especially since we kinda destroyed the Old MBL Universe ![[um.... uh huh! ... ]](graemlins/umuhhuh001.gif) ( I didn't do it! ![[who, me?]](graemlins/whome01.gif) ). I'd be willing to do something like an "Ultimate MBL" where we can use all the classic concepts and such as much or as little as we want, but essentially it's also a blank slate. It might be fun to write "Classic TTT" again... ![[cool]](images/icons/cool.gif) It's been so long since we've done any straight superhero stuff, though (even the "Elseworlds" stories featuring the "Classic MBL" are depressing as hell) -- might take some getting used to.

yeah, it's been so long since I wrote a team script.....gah.....
I forget all the nuances of the characters......
all I really remember is retrieving Nuriko's Gundam from the bottom of a lake, it wasn't MY chara that did it, but some character that hadda wear some kinda underwater suit.......we made him look like the michelin man....heh....
further, I can't really remember what I called my first hideout.....I know the second one was called the Porn Cave, but the first one was some kinda bachelor pad or something.....
man, if only the classic threads were still around.....
~waits patiently for the AFLAC duck~

I think every MBL thread is saved in one of those Yahoo! Groups that we got.
I do plan on continuing The Traveler story from over a year ago, which in essence is a redoing of a classic MBL thread, but I'd rather participate in one with everyone else.

Yeah, I've uploaded all the older stories here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MessageBoardLeague/ (all the MBL stories are here) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tombsadventures/ (all the TOMB stories are here) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HeroRevolution (most of the older stories from this forum are here) Just look in the Files section of each group to access the stories. I'd love to do Ultimate MBL, and I've mentioned this on previous occasions, but we've rarely had enough "old-timers" to make a go of it until now. It would be cool if we could get the Indestructible Man and Bibbo back for this, but it'll probably never happen. LLance would probably be up for it, though. I think it's essential to have something like the old MBL HQ in Thunder City, and none of this paranoid "X-Men on the run" shit we've been so fond of over the last two years. Let's make this more like the old superhero pastiche stories. The thing I loved about the old MBL stories was that we NEVER took ourselves very seriously, and the stories we came up with were often the kind one comes up with after drinking too many beers and getting a bit giddy.

Never, TTT?
Sorry for vanishing for an eternity like that. I'd have been back sooner, but forgot Rob's boards existed until a week or two ago when I was reminded of it by a post at the near-empty Natureverse board.
Since then, I've tried to figure out what the hell story-wise is going on here since then.
My absence was pretty much tied to a midlife crisis of mine, with lotsa wackiness in the past year or so, but here I am... (and abusing smileys, to boot!)

I-Man, you wouldn't believe this, but me and a few others were just now talking about recruiting some of the older members, and your name came up. Mxy said you wouldn't go for it...
Great to see you again.

And welcome back, or course...
Hey, I alredy said this to TTT but I wanna say it here: I'd love to make an Ultimate MBL. Without abandoning the current Universe, of course. Just something lighter to create a balance.

I-Man!!! Whoa, man, you took me by surprise, there! Good to see you around. Make sure to say hi to Rob. He misses you. As far as what to read to get caught up? Well, that depends. If you're interested in starting up this "Ultimate MBL" (or maybe "Penultimate MBL" as per Disco Steve's suggestion, so as to avoid lawsuits 'n' such), then basically all we need do is start up a story and get recruiting some posters, then just write a story in the way the old ones were written. If you're interested in also doing something in the more "serious" sort of universe we've got set up, then I'm sure someone could bring you up to speed.

Hi I-Man, finally you got here! Since I am the one that basically destroyed the old Universe with our (mine and YOURS)"War of Light and Darkness) and started the new one (see Hero Revolution issue 0) I am taking the duty of briefing you over our last two years of stories. Ok, so, well... how to start? Go here. It's the recap of the first two stories, where the basics of our Universe are told. Since then, our groups of heroes have left the travelling life and based themselves in a Caribbean island, La Perdita, founding a company specialized in impossible task, sort of Challengers of the Unknow crossed with the Power Company, called Vanguard International. The style is enough serious, derivative of the last times of TOMB. About the old TOMBL universe, its last days are detailed in the various threads in page 1 and 2 of this forum. About starting a Penultimate MBL, I am for it, but only if it's done like in the firsts years: 1)fun stories than are not necessarly funny (see the failure of the "All different MBL" thread somewhere in the old pages of the forum) and 2)short paragraphes, to not have to spend half a evening before being able to post.

Well, I decided to start the story. Let's get together all the old timers we can find, and meanwhile go get to recruiting some new members. I don't have any idea on what to do next, as I'd rather we not plan these stories like we do the "Hero Revolution" ones. Eurostar: I agree that we should keep these stories "fun" without being too "funny". The other attempt at doing an old-style MBL story ended in a complete farce. Let's not repeat that again.
Note: This android isn't the same TTT from the old MBL or TOMB stories, though he's built by the same people. I've pretty much explained everything you guys need to know about him so far, though I haven't come up with a "costume" or anything like that yet. I don't want to make him a fashion disaster like he was in the old MBL. Probably end up going with something black with green or purple linings or like that.

In 'Ultimate' fashion, we get to clean up our continuity and simplify it, right? Cuz I plan a much more new-reader-friendly I-Man backstory... ![[nyah hah]](images/icons/tongue.gif)

So, question: Is this intended to be it's own thing? Separate from everything else we're doing? and I, for one, was quite enjoying that "complete farce", btw. ![[yuh huh]](images/icons/rolleyes.gif)

I discovered both the MBL & the DCMBs around late '99 I believe. I "joined" during the Crock of Ages thread. I put joined in parentheses because I made a grand total of... two posts during that story (one as "MajorMan" asking for permission to join the MBL and another as "Plot Twister" - a throwaway ID ). The reasons that I didn't participate as much as I wanted (HA! There's an understatement...) was because I didn't have 'net access from home at the time and at that time I wasn't reading comic books. I did follow the MBL, though. I even joined the Yahoo Group once Rob kicked you guys off the boards. I think I left the DCMBs around mid-2000 and didn't check the boards until June of last year when I created the "Registered Member# 16603" ID.
When the JLR formed on the JLA boards last winter, they reminded me so much of the MBL that I checked on the Yahoo Group and that's how I found Rob's board. When Rob shut down the JLR, I suggested to the others that we might be able to continue the JLR here, and we've been here ever since.

Hey, I remember you! Both your IDs. And I remember there being mass confusion as to whether MM was supposed to be a good guy or a bad guy...
But that's really cool. I didn't know if any of the JLR members had even heard of the MBL.

Pretty much, yeah. With my Time Trust character, I basically took a look at him and figured out what essential elements I wanted to keep and discarded the rest (like the whole "traitor" angle, and the fact that, while the old TTT spent a century in the present before his MBL adventures began -- from 1900 to 2000 -- I'm still not sure what the heck he was doing in all that time. That's an element I don't want to repeat). I think at this point, after two years, it would be nigh-impossible to get back into the groove of the old MBL and TOMB stories and actually pick up where they left off. Too much bridge under the water, and all that... but an "Ultimate" version allows you to use whatever you want from the old MBL, forget the rest, and add any new elements as well.
Plus, the charm of the MBL as it was in early 2000 was that the stories were never really planned ahead. People just posted something, usually based on whatever was posted before them. I'd prefer to keep the Hero Revolution stories (IE: the "Issue 13" thread) the more "literary" ones, while the Penultimate MBL will be more spur-of-the-moment kind of thing, where you never know what's going to happen next.

I'm not interested in using the old MBL Mxy (the Mr Mxyzptlk ripoff), so I'm think I'm gonna make a mix between old Mxy and new Mxy: he has human form (that looks like Mick only older) but only one identity. Powers are the same: practically endless, but limited by his personality. Also, he doesn't come from the 5th Dimension, just from "somewhere else".

Great beginning for the story, guys -- this feels like "old home week" here at the HHQ...
BTW, in case some of you have AOL Instant Messenger, us "storytellers" have regular chats every once in a while. Usually in the evenings. My AOL nickname is "Doc Quantum".

As far as Cap goes,Cap is gonna be more surrly and unlikeable than Nowhereman, think Guy Gardner from the Giffen era Justice League! Nowhereman will play a part, but that will all be revealed in time!
As for Caps look, basically he is a carbon copy of The Undertaker (American bad ass with long hair version) but shorter & with less tattoos! Just so you can picture him when you read!

If anyone else wants to join up (Animalman, you out there?), you can do so at any time during the story. As I said in the story, TTT is linked to the MBL HQ computer, so he can direct any and all applicants or returning members to where they should go.

In case me and Howdy didn't make it obvious already, Velo's the Captain Marvel on this team. A powerhouse but a little naive.
I think it would be cool if the Nature Boyz were like 21st century Robin Hoods in the story. They seemingly "raid" only those who deserve it and such. Plus they could be fighting Big Bob on the Internet.
Oh, and a big welcome back to Shock Headed Peter...if that's really him...

I have been conversing with SHP and from all he has said,I would say that he is the real deal!
I agree to an extent with the NBz,unlike Robin Hood which was very black & white, rob from the rich give to the poor, the NBz attack people who they "deem" idiots,so its just a matter of opinion to them. If they decide you are an idiot, you`re pretty fucked!
