"Should we leave money on the counter," Tayden asked with a handful of potato chips and soft drinks.
"Who's going to collect it?" Bell responded while filling the gas tank of their newly acquired Suburban.
"I don't know. I just don't feel right by just taking it. Or by leaving those guys in the courthouse."
"Hill said he'd take care of them. It's not our problem anymore."
"I guess." Tayden stared back down the road in the direction of the courthouse. A quick smile crossed his face. "Hmmm... Never thought those guys would move so quickly to get back INTO a jail cell."
"Yep. Zombies will do that to you." Dirk's voice was distant as though his comments were just instinctual reactions to a conversation he wasn't really participating in.
"And did we really have to steal another car? Why couldn't we have just...."
"For fuck's sake! We didn't steal anything. The owner of this vehicle is dead. Besides, I don't feel like roaming around the country in a county paddy wagon with one guy from the future, a fallen angel, Mr. Presto-chango, and Skeletor." The pump stopped and Dirk dropped the nozzel to the ground.
Grimm came walking out of the convienence store with a case of beer under each arm and in each hand. Tayden looked at him quizzically as he approached. "I think I've earned it," was all Grimm gave for an answer to the angel's unasked question.
"In the back, Fright Night," Dirk said while climbing into the driver's seat, "and keep your head down. The last thing I need is for the cops to see a drunken skull sitting next to me. And no scaring kids in passing cars."
Michael sat on his motorcycle, ready to follow. He wasn't so sure as to what was going to happen, but he'd had that feeling for quite some time now. He was almost used to it.
"Maybe you should take it easy with Priest being in the condition he's in," Tayden suggested as he climbed into the passenger seat.
"We're on a deadline, kid," Dirk said as he slammed down on the gas. Priest, who had been left laying in the very back of the SUV, felt his body jolt. The pain and nausea of his recent experience coursed through his body. He felt like he was going to vomit, even though he had nothing left to puke.
