http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=214602 quote: NEWS - Disturbed Singer Blasts RIAA Lawsuits 09/12/2003 (9/12/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- Disturbed lead singer David Draiman thinks that the music industry should figure out how to distribute music on the Internet, instead of suing people who download songs.
Draiman told the San Francisco Chronicle, "This is not rocket science--instead of spending all this money litigating against kids who are the people they're trying to sell things to in the first place, they have to learn how to effectively use the Internet." Draiman asserts that the actions taken by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) are protecting corporate profits, not artists: "For the artists, my ass...I didn't ask them to protect me, and I don't want their protection."
On Monday (September 8), the RIAA filed suit against 261 people--including a 12-year-old girl--who allegedly had more than 1,000 music files on their computers. The RIAA is charging them with copyright violation, seeking as much as $150,000 per violation in some of the cases, and hopes that the lawsuits will help put the brakes on file-sharing.
Disturbed will appear in a documentary called Get Thrashed, due out before the end of the year, which will examine the thrash metal scene of the '80s and its impact on today's heavy rock bands.
A DVD of last spring's Music As A Weapon tour, featuring Disturbed, Chevelle, Taproot, and Unloco, is tentatively scheduled for release on October 22.

I think Disturbed is one of the worst cookie-cutter alt./newrock/xmusic fm radio bands out there.
But the man makes an Xtremely good point. To the Xtreme!

$5.00 to $7.00 CD's and $.20 cent downloads/ISP surcharge is what'll stop piracy, not any heavy handed antics by the RIAA. What is so hard to understand about making the price attractive enough that piracy will be a waste of time and effort?? Idiots. Speaking of stupidity: Disposable DVD's Far from Being a Sure Bet

RE: Disposable DVDs.
The entire idea just seems ridiculous. If I don't want to watch a movie after 48 hours or so, I'll dig up my Blockbuster or Hollywood video card. The majority of people who buy DVDs want to keep them, watch them whenever and get the added bonuses of "special features".

Why aren't the environmentalists organizing a boycott of Disney over this? After all, do we really want millions of disposable DVDs clogging our landfills?

I never gave a shit about Disturbed's music, and I doubt I ever will, but he couldn't be more right. I'm glad some musicians understand that.

I just bought the new A Perfect Circle album, and in the liner notes is a plea/threat from EMI, warning people that downloading music from the internet is illegal, you shouldn't distribute music that you don't own, and that even lending music to your friends is wrong.
I just thought: "Man, what balls."

Disposable DVDs.... gah. They failed the first time, when it was called DIVX.
Yes, I am aware that DIVX was 48 hours free, with each viewing after that you get charged for it, but it's the same basic principle.
DVD is only successful because of the extras, widescreen, and y'know, better picture, sound, and nearly unlimited playability. Stripping the format of that is a pointless waste of time and resources.
Oh, and the RIAA is a toothless cat that has become irrelevant and obsolete, man. They can't face it, so they're lashing out in a futile strike against what it doesn't understand, and therefore fears. However, the consumer is smarter.

From Washington Times interview with DeLay:
Mr. Hurt: Have you ever crossed the line of ethical behavior in terms of dealing with lobbyists, your use of government authority or with fundraising?
Mr. DeLay: Ever is a very strong word.
