Lets say in the late XIX century there were around 10 metahumans all over the world... and lets say they get together and make a League. OR there are around 11 metahumans, and 10 of them get together and make a league, to stop the 11th one that has gone insane and is using his powers for indecent purposes.

I think we could explain their powers without mentioning the metagene... I would really prefer if there was no metahuman people born before 1950.
I think heroes of Gothic novels, or of pulp fiction, usually were not born with superpowers, but usually they aquired it, wheter by magic or by science, so there are infinite way to explains their powers without mentioning the metagene (plus, it would made no sense talking about genetic in those times).

Come on. You've only got until the 15th (Saturday). After that, he's just going to start on it. So, stop sitting there on your ass and do it, Susans! I want to see this drawn with all the characters. However, the truth of the matter is that I was your original screen name back in November 2000 shortly after Rob's Damn Board was created, was I not? The same screen name which you lost all that time ago and only just begged Rob to send you the password for? Is that not the case?

Besides, not all the characters have to be metas... I could explain the powers of one of my characters using something else (though I would prefer saying he was a meta), but the other one NEEDS to be a meta, for reasons you will see later on.

We don't have to speak about genetics, either. They are just freaks.

And another thing... I've been thinking about mixing this with my other idea about leaving clues for you guys to solve a case, and I think it wouldn't work on this particular story. I alredy have a theme for the killer, and it wouldn't apply on the victorian age. But thanks for reminding me of that idea, Euro. I've been giving it a lot of thought lately.

...now I'm gonna go try to post on the story [gulp!]

Mr Trust? We're from the International Continuity Agency... Please come with us.

I'm afraid you've just made an infraction, Mr Trust. As stated in Mr. Donny's post in page five, Tobias Christopher was suppoused to go to Berlin using his super-speed, and not by plane like his teammates.

One more infraction, Mr Trust, and you will be castrated.

Thanks for your attention.

Well, in truth Kit Piper was the one who mistakenly assumed that Tobias was on the plane with Danny & company -- an understandable mistake considering that his mind is so obviously elsewhere -- so consider that infraction revoked, Continuity! You'll never get me, ya Continuity Coppers!

You know guys, this is actually a great idea, and verging on something that a friend and I were actually working on at one point (aside, Catfish Jake and the metabar also came originally from this idea). Ok, as Mxy said, metahumans supposedly first appeared in the 1990's. But what if they actually existed before then? Euro's point about 1950 is interesting in accounting for atomic testing and radiation bringing metas about, but what if, they actually existed even before then?

What if a scientist in this universe were to uncover at some point historical evidence that a famous figure were, in fact, a meta? What if several figures of note from myth and/or legend were actually metas? What if the gods of myth were based on living figures that were metas? What if (and I know I'm running the risk of pissing several of you off with this one, but hell, why stop now? [wink] ) Jesus were a meta? This would all be great stuff for scientists and historians and researchers of this universe to speculate about and bring up. And if we do a story set in the past, if some characters were metas, it's not like they would have to know anything about the metagene (and it's not like everyone on the team now is a meta or anything.)

I think this would be great stuff for characters in the background and maybe even main characters to speculate on and think about. I'm not saying we should come right and say "well such and such was actually a metahuman and not whatever. . ." but rather it should be something open to individual interpretation, much like real historical figures often are. Such as, if someone wants to take the position that certain human heroes of legend who pulled off specific feats was actually a metahuman, why not? If the time traveling group that was discussed a while back actually gets going, this would be something that would be interesting to explore there. Say they encounter a figure of myth and bring them into the present, examine them, and discover a metagene, thus validating the earlier character's opinion. Could be fun and interesting.

Just a few late night thoughts. . .

I asked to have no metagene people around before the '50es because I am toying with the idea of revealing that the metagene is not a casual mutation, but something that waS PLANTED in the humankind at that point.

It's not something I have carefully though, so, if Mxy thinks that he NEEDS for his character to be a meta, I am more than willing to accept that.

About the gods and the heroes of the past, I was more inclined to explain them using alien tech and magic, but that's only my way of invading the whole time-space-continuum with the "hoods-capes" neverending battle concept. And I know that's not fair.

Hey fellow TOMBers and TOMB fans (and all the rest) -- I've been creating these "e-book covers" for each of the TOMB adventures so far. I've got all of the stories from "Volume 1" (the ones from the DC boards) done. Check the Photos section to find them and let me know what you think.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tombsadventures/

Some are admittedly better than others, but each was done with the intention of following each story's theme. Hence, if "Rypta's Thread" looks very much like the cover of an '80s brit-pop band, that's cause it's supposed to, since in that story the PPM of Mandelovia (this was the country's first appearance) wreaked havoc by bringing the '80s back. Heh-heh. We never seem to do stories like those anymore, do we?

...

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that I'm also doing covers for each of the Hero Revolution stories, but so far I've only got one done. They don't take me all that long to create once I've found the right pictures to use, so I hope to unveil them as well soon.

Ah, but that's just it. My thoughts aren't necessarily intended to be explanations, but rather speculation. I'd rather the stuff not be fully explained, but left open for characters to think and wonder about. Kinda like in real life. But it also would leave things open if someone did want to introduce a character from legend and say that that person was a meta.

Some of these are really good. It's a mix of Mckean, SMT, and Planetary, cover wise. I especially like the Rypta and Malvana covers.

In the story it has been stated that EVERY human has the metagene, only it is active in some and not in others. The MCCA in the US, M-X and other companies have been testing it which led to an accidental "breakout" which has caused the metagenes in the 90s and present to become active.

Thanks, Grimm -- these have been a lot of fun to make (especially the Malvana cover, which was taken from a cover for a Modesty Blaise book, a character who I think Malvana resembles quite a bit in a few ways).

Of the Hero Revolution book covers I've done so far, I have completed the covers for issues #5, 6, 9, and 10. The rest will come along shortly -- I'll post them all at once as soon as the rest are filled in, though I'll wait until #11 is completed to do a cover for that one. I haven't been doing all the covers in chronological order, either. For the TOMB books, for instance, it was difficult for me to think of cover ideas for the first two "issues," since they weren't really big on the story and were just a bunch of posters joking around more than anything, but I think I managed to do them justice. Once I get all the TOMB and Hero Revolution books done, I might start working on the old MBL story covers as well.

BTW, the reason I started creating these is because I'm converting our stories to Microsoft Reader format, and these "covers" can be uploaded with a text file to create an e-book to work in that format. Microsoft Reader has a voice option, too, so it can read the stories back to you -- something I find handy since my eyes get really tired trying to read too much for too long on the screen.

You're right, I forgot it.

But that's not a problem, because I said before that I am for Mxy's original idea.

I am still inclined to think that the metagene has beeen genetically created, just the moment of the planting should be put at the origin of modern humankind. And that means in Victorian age there were metas, and also in classical and mythical times.. It's so nice when everything fit perfectly together...

I´m terribly sorry that I couldn´t join the "What´s a Nubian?" chat...I guess it´s due to the time difference...anyway here´s an idea...I am now currently in that chatroom so I´m going to keep it open 24-7...that is if my PC doesen´t crash or something...you are all welcome to chat there at all times...
I s there a way to make a permanent chat room?
As I have a 10mbit broadband network and a monthly rate, I can have this open without any additional costs...so I would be honored to be the host of a permanent MBL chat room...plaese advice if I need another program than Trillian to do this in better way...
