BTW, the thing happening with Kit Piper in the story -- nobody mess it up, please -- this is something I've been planning for about half a year now, and is part of a dastardly plot I began almost a year ago ![[mwah hwah haa]](graemlins/devil.gif) (and have had to modify due to changed circumstances). Sounds cryptic, I know, but bear with me. In the meantime, Kit will be attempting to act as if everything is normal, though of course he won't be as jovial as usual. I don't want anyone to do any "quick fixes" of Kit's problem or anything like that. Thanks. :) Oh, and I should mention that I have an idea on where the Kit situation will go to a point, but after that it'll be an open plot-thread for all of us to figure out together. It's planned to reach a certain point, but the rest of it is flexible for whatever ideas the rest of you might come up with. [ 01-23-2003, 10:13 AM: Message edited by: TheTimeTrust ]

Blackwulf grinned at Kit and mimicked the gesture, "Ha-ha-ha -- No, you are being the man."
"No, man, you da man!"
"No, comrade, it is you who are being the man."
"No, YOU da man."
"Nyet, nyet, you are the one who is being the m--"
   I LOVE it!
And I also like where this Kit/mob subplot is going too. Good work TTT.

I know I'm a lot more willing to listen to someone who can see the strengths in my writing and point them out along with the weaknesses than someone who just points out my faults.
And, quite honestly, all bullshit and jokes aside, that's all I've ever attempted to do. I mean, anything less, and people throwing stones in glass houses and all that. Thanks for recognizing that TTT. Glad someone listened.

quote: Originally posted by Euro: Lastly Turkish. I hate Turkish. He is too damn powerful. I see him as a cross between Doctor Fate and the Kway Chen Kane (sp) from the original Kung Fu serial. He talks to nature and change the course of hurricanes, makes the sun drops below the horizon at will (I'm making this up, I know). Aurochs sent toward him the ugliest denizens of Hell, and he dissipated them like a breeezes. There's no way to stop him (well, there are millions way, but only in Pro's mind, nothing of what I can think would succeded in bring him down).
Have you read the above? It's all bullshit. The truth is that I hate Turkish because it "killed" the single character I really loved from the old Universe, the human Prometheus, the god who refuse godhood to be among the humans that he loved so much. Mithology at its essence. The best well rounded character ever to appear in the MBL/TOMB era. When he didn't return, revamped or altered or the same, in the HR universe, I felt like I lost a friend.
Damn.
I mean....damn.
Euro....Guido. In all honesty, from one friend to another, that was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. I sincerely appreciate it. I am flattered that you feel that way about Pro. Quite honestly, I miss writing him. He is, in my head, and as a character, an endless fountain of interesting things to do and see. But, in all good conscience, when it was decided that we would create a NEW universe, I could not simply just re-use Prometheus. The point of the entire reboot was to start over fresh, with new and inventive characters. That's all. I love Prometheus. Hell, when it comes to certain traits, I AM Prometheus. And, one day I'll find a reason to write him again. But, I'd never bring him back just for the sake of doing it.
As for Turkish, I realize that many of you couldn't grasp how a character of that design could have any fallibilities. And, since I was rushed in and out of the writing, I realize that I never got the chance to truly show you what I mean with his character. But, it really IS simple. As long as you read the examples I've shown you of what Turkish can do, and keep in mind that he is ONLY powerful on that level, Stringfellow can be dropped like anyone else. Smith had no real trouble with him. Aurochs, however, was never fully invested in the fight with him, and Turkish took that advantage. But, if it will help out, read THE ORDER: PRELUDE back on one of the pages. In there, you'll see Turkish can only do so many things at once. He cannot "command" nature. He simply has a way of communicating with it. If he had been around, he could have "asked" the hurricane to dissipate. But, given the fury of nature itself, the hurricane would not have been persuaded. Turkish can manipulate the details, not the whole. And, if you hit him with too many different things at once, he goes down as easily as any other person. All you have to do is remember your physics, watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, watch The Matrix, and write him with a Jedi in mind. And that's it, really.
But, hey, at least he's bald, right?

That to me is a good thing, because there's a bit of everyone in Phil - and there's a bit of Phil in everyone. Don't be afraid to write with him because you don't understand every element of his personality. Phil is a very dynamic character, and if I were to make him more predictable or more "in the box", I would defeat my entire purpose for writing him in the first place.
Genius. I sincerely love the way you think. :)
quote: Originally posted by Grimm-Girl: Euro, guys, I'll give you a little insight into the things that inspired Pro to come up with Turkish. Turkish has bits of Lei Mu Bai from Crouching Tiger, a little of Neo from Matrix (later Neo, near the end. This analogy starts to make sense if you think of the Scion character mentioned in Pro's interlude a while back as Morpheus.) a dose of Jedi Knights (Euro, if you're looking for ways Turkish could be beaten, watch the Jango Fett/Obi-Wan battle scene from Clone Wars) and a touch of Ambrose Chase from Planetary.
Having knowledge of what inspired the character and having the benefit of actually being able to talk with Pro and discuss it, I'm probably more comfortable with the notion than some of you.
THANK you. Exactly.

Gee thanks! Actually, a lot of my formula for characterization was based on your stuff that Chewy directed me to, as well as Chewy's assessment of your writing style. It's a bit different, I admit, but some of the basic tenets are still there.
Although I'd be even more flattered if I got your feedback on Unidentified. ![[wink]](images/icons/wink.gif)

Help me, guys! I have some kind of sick, twisted desire to put my characters through pure hell in order to see how they turn out on the other side, all in the name of character development! Pete & Chance: For the luckiest guys in the world, they sure have had a great deal of misfortune of late! Dr. Henry Quantos: He has always been a rational man of science... yet his very belief system is thrown into turmoil when he's confronted with unexplainable phenomenon like the Metatithenai (see solo story for details). Kit Piper: He's one of the cheeriest guys in the New MBL Universe, yet the one thing in this world that he cherishes most (his daughters) have been put into mortal danger -- he's going through an emotional hell if there ever was one. And others: The Time Trust/Tryst: This once-sturdily-heroic member of the MBL turned into a VILLAIN at one point. Not only that, but his successor (Tryst) who is ashamed of the original TTT later finds out that he and the original TTT are one and the same but only at different life periods! ![[eh?]](images/icons/confused.gif) Holy contortions of logic, I-Man! (Time travel sure can be confusing, eh wot?) Sir Justin of Camelot: Not yet put through Hell... but there were once plans... Griffin / "The Invisible Man": Not yet put through Hell... but he may be an instrument of some others' being put through Hell... Calvin Nachtman / "Insomnia Boy": This kid has a pure heart but lives a complete lie every single day! He believes he's "Amazing Lad," fer cryin' out loud, and that he's a member of the heroic team of the " Earth Protector Squadron"!!! [ 01-23-2003, 04:41 PM: Message edited by: TheTimeTrust ]

TTT and Tayden, thanks. About my father, he will be back at his home saturday, he will have to cure himself, but at last he is safe. Thanks for your support.
Pro, I understand perfectly when you talk about a new character for the new universe. I did the same, dropping Nemo in favor of Euro. Eurostar as a name existed before, but in the old Universe I never was able to develop him beyond superhero stereotype.
As for Turkish, for now he is mostly what his powers are. Prometheus was mostly what his powers were not.

I hate to do one of those "a few minutes ago" things at the start of my post, they generally seem so contrived... but I wrote most of it last night, before Euro posted, but my computer crashed before I could post it. But there was some stuff in it I wanted to keep, so there it is... apologies.
Euro, my best wishes to your father.

Excellent analysis, Euro! I wish I could say that it had been intentional. Still, works perfect. Turkish is unlike any character I've created before (Pro, Foreman, Malvana), and that was what I wanted.
So, everyone, it's like this: I've got a basic concept for a story that I would love seen done. And, the best part, it's simple, and unplanned.
In a nutsack: The MBL (BTW, what the hell does that stand for?) is hired, simultaneously, by four different groups and/or people. The team is then split into four teams of three, and sent to New York City, London, Sydney, and Amsterdam.
What's going on? What are the crisis that the team is being hired to deal with? Are they somehow related to each other? Is it individual threats? What IS the story(s) about?
That's for YOU to decide. And write.
Each group of three writers can create their own mini-story within a story. If you guys want to link them, that's fine, too. What you do, how you interact, what your mission is like, and the kind of story you want to tell is up to each group.
The catch?
I get to decide which posters are paired, and to which city they go.
See? Simple. It gives room enough for creative freedom, but gives it enough of an outline that it won't degenerate into chaos. And what I ask, is, very little.
So, opinions, thoughts, and bitching?

We could do it just after this story (after all is issue 13 which is reserved, not 12, I think), but I would like to punt out that it could be easily worked into this one. when the five returns from Italy, and Ameristar and Drax from the Amazonas, it coul be Pro to split the team in four and send the groups to four, not only three, locations. They will have to be different frm the city you choose, but i believe, from your words, that the destinatons were not important.
I am game with both possibilities.

T5 and Drax, I have high anticipation for your portion of the story. So for, I very like the humorous tone. Well done.
Same for my comrades in Italy, I am having a lot of fun (I need it these days).

I am sorry for the story at your board, but these days I haven't enough time to post there. I hope that I will be able to, again, in a short time.

If you guys want to do it, I'd prefer an entirely new story. And, hey, while we are at it, I'd prefer if all the mini-sub-plot stories weren't focused on too much during it. This is supposed to be a group project, and I think it would be advantageous if all the "background noise" was kept to a minimum. This will give everyone a chance to just deal with only three characters, and not the entire strata all at once. Just a thought.
The cities, and who gets paired up, is up to me. The rest is up to you. :)
Let me know when you'll be ready. I'm thinking about doing the initial post. And from then on, it's all you.

I thought I'd take a moment to specify Drake's physical condition for the benefit of anyone who may have to write him in an action scene. He's still in relatively good physical shape (he could easily kick my ass and then everyone would make fun of me because my ass was kicked by a guy who needs a cane to walk. Why is everyone so mean to me? Why? WHY?) Uh, anyway, most of the nerve damage is, at this point, in his left leg. He pretty much always feels like he's been sitting in an awkward position from mid thigh down. His right leg isn't nearly as bad and the numbness is all from his calf down and isn't constant. The same goes for the numbness in his fingers. He has no trouble grasping objects, but he has poor motor control (he can barely type and would have a very hard time pulling a trigger). Physically, he's stonger than average in his upper body but his legs are getting pretty weak, even with physical therapy. I hope this helps anyone who writes for him.

Amestar is more the gymnastic acrobatic type than a physical fighter. She can handle herself in a fight but she is no expert. She relys on her armor to protect her, and her teleporting power to send her enemies away or her.

Cap Sammitch: Chance isn't a pacifist -- he just doesn't have much love for guns, though he knows how to use 'em. He did a stint in the Swedish Army shortly after high school like all Swedish men do, and had his military training. He's not an overtly aggressive person (like Dirk Bell, for instance) and believes in diplomacy first -- *in reasonable situations only* -- but he's by no means a pacifist.
Only problem is that fighting is a one-sided deal with Chance, due (1) to his enhanced luck which make probability factors work in his favour; and (2) to his other ability which directs all force used against him back to its source. Aggressive actions against Chance are continually doomed to failure -- therefore, an opponent wishing to outwit Chance must do so taking both his luck and his force-redirecting quality into account and outwit him without using force or anything which would place him into a situation in which his luck would kick in to help him. TTT, did you ever entertain the fact that that was just how Sammitch's character perceives Chance? That the thing about perceptions, especially fictional ones, they're allowed to be wrong. Dirk thinks Chance is a pussy. Does that mean he's right?
On another note, everyone here is already unwillingly aware of the fact that Grimm is Pro's bitch. Conclusive evidence this past week has proven the Pro is in fact my bitch. Therefore, I hold the reigns of all the bitches of the bitches. It's good to be the King.

Sorry about the nominographical error. And TTT, Doc is right - it is just a perception. Remember how long Phil's been around all these guys - not very long at all.

Of course I figured it was probably Sammitch's character's perception -- but I still have to make sure my character isn't WRITTEN as a pacifist -- I didn't know if Sammitch was aware of this or not. The line doesn't say that Phil thinks Chance is a pacifist. It says he is a pacifist. Clarification is always good, IMO. [ 01-27-2003, 06:58 PM: Message edited by: TheTimeTrust ]

I must say, these delusional insecurities that you have recently begun manifesting in your day-to-day life are becoming increasingly more frequent, and not at all accurate with the reality in which you are presented.
I must point out that any therapy you may wish to seek (at your own advantage) will only serve to shred this miagma of self-loathing, and bring you into focus through, what I'm sure would be, a screaming cacophony of terror, when you realize that the small, insignificant dream you held in your naive' youth where you were 'The King', was nothing more than the same bedsheet-wet fantasy that will help you sleep better during those long, lonely years of regret and denial.
Bitch, indeed.
But, I am curious. What is your so-called "conclusive evidence"?

Never bite the hand that gives you brownies, my dear. Which, of course, in this case, was Lady R. But, that's beside the point......

Alright, I'm back in the story, finally. I hope I characterized Kit alright. I picture his relationship around Kristogar like he was a used car salesman. He respects Velo's intelligence to the point that he feels the need to sell him on every detail, big or small, and the end result is basically Kit talking a lot.
