To answer your question, Gooz:

To confabulate means to chat, to hold a discussion, to confer. Thus a confabulation is a discussion. :) I thought at first that it was a pseudo-word, but surprisingly enough it's in my dictionary.

Thanks! I have some experience with strange bars like this one... heh-heh-heh... [mwah hwah haa]

Anyways, I should explain a bit about how it works: The bar has only one or two "fixed addresses" in the world, such as in La Perdita (and possibly in a couple of other places as well), but it's also a "floating bar," appearing spontaneously in the back-alleys of pretty much all the major cities in the world at one time or another. But here's the kicker: It's not predictable, except that the people who work there can tell when it's going to move to a different place, and they know it takes a few hours for it to do so, though sometimes it lingers longer or shorter in different places. That's why, when Dr. Quantos stepped out onto the streets of Paris, the bouncer called him back quickly, since he knew the doorway was about to vanish from Paris and switch to a different destination (this time Tokyo). So it's great for quick adventures, but poor for any kind of travel... unless you just want to go somewhere without any destination in mind. Also, if you get stuck in one of the cities the bar "floats" to and can't get back to the doorway before it vanishes, you're out of luck. You'll have to find your own way home...

Um, sorry, TTT, it's a cool idea and all, but I thought you understood after the last chat, It's just a bar. Just a bar, that's all. The patrons are freaky, the bar is normal. Making it a place with entrances all across the world kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing, imo. If they can go anywhere in the world, why in hell would they stay in one place?

It's just a bar.

Sorry, I thought you were cool with the idea. Well, anyways, I'm not retconning any of my posts. This is a collaborative effort, after all, so we're all doing our share of creating this world. Sorry again.

TTT, I also thought we had all agreed that it was a normal bar. This is one of the things that was susposed to make LP special, more meta rights. Don't get me wrong, your posts were well written and interesting, but I don't think they fit well.

I'm not saying you have to retcon, but [sad]

I remember that in the chat we didn't agree to use TTT's idea, but, honestly, I don't see how it hurts the story... especially if the posts are written as good as TTT's are (excellent way to handle the Pete situation, by the way).

I looked over the chat transcripts, and nobody really said anything definite one way or the other, so I wrote it. I never thought it would be so controversial, though, but it's one of my favourite posts so far, so I'd hate to see it go.

Grimm asked:

"If they can go anywhere in the world, why in hell would they stay in one place?"

Because there are VERY few places in the world in which metahumans can exist freely and interact with each other in a relaxed setting. It works, it works.

You know, you're right. So I hope you enjoy Kristofer Schanz's new prediliction for crossdressing. [mwah hwah haa] [wink]

All right, Jake's Place is just an ordinary bar for metahumans again. I'll let the rest of you do the "bar thing" in your own style. Seems a bit mundane to me, but... diff'rent strokes an' all...

However, I managed to salvage my idea and post in a very novel way without explaining it as if "it was all a dream" (or mass hallucination) and without retconning anyone else's posts.

The Metatithenai -- one of my best creations to date, thank you very much, made all the more interesting in the method in which I was able to salvage the concept -- will reappear in a future story. [biiiig grin]

Uh, I don't think so, thedoctor. Chance is immune to hallucinogens as I mentioned, so that whole theory doesn't wash. The bar is still normal as Grimm and Gooz wish it to be, but I managed to preserve my idea in a very unique fashion WITHOUT changing the nature of the bar itself, proving that we CAN our cake and eat it too.

TTT, the Docs post fits fine. If what your post said it true, wouldn't Jake try to lie again to protect his club. So, now he lies to DocQ, Change and Ed's teammate to try to make them think they are seeing false facts. I think it makes perfect sence. Just as I like how you covered it, with it being a rivel meta bar and such.

I'm just waiting for one of the bars to call the cops on the other for underage-metas [wink]

Okay, I see what you mean. I didn't notice at first that it was Jake saying those things. Actually, it sounds like Jake is trying just a little too hard to get people to believe his story... making it sound less and less likely to be true the more he says it... [wink]

It's not really a rival meta bar, though, in so many words. More like an entity... a living building. More on that later. And it's more like a cross between a nightclub and an inn, since it's fairly large. No comparison to an ordinary bar, really.

The snake-man's name is Ysaparoth, by the way, not Yssssaparoth. That's just the way he pronounces it himself. But he shouldn't show up again in this story anyways, so it doesn't matter.

Just a little reminder to everyone out there. I try and make all my posts from Dirk's perspective. I try to do my best to withhold any information that Dirk does not already know. Also, if Dirk doesn't notice it, he doesn't acknowledge it. To further the point, never just look at what's on the surface of a Dirk Bell post.

Yes, TTT, Gooz brought out a good point. The post can be interpreted as Jake still trying to pass on bum information as to what everyone saw. But since Dirk had never heard Quantos's conversation with the rest of them, he couldn't make that determination himself (actually, he couldn't give a rat's ass). That's why the post may come off as being contradictory to yours. I try and leave posts open ended for interpretation. I like people to try and guess how things might really be compared to how Dirk preceives them.

Some thoughs:

TTT, I loved the first take on the bar and even more the explanation about the living building entity. You make great stuff.

Grimm, I understand that you wanted a normal bar, especially since you wrote in the beginning that it was aplace for people that were outcast even in La Perdita. But insted of talking about it only in the chat, wouldn't have been better to have it stated in the Talk thread? Being this a collective effort, I think we should clearly say what we want and what we don't want for our personal creations. Usually we have been limited to absolute respect for each one characters, but it can be extended even to places.

Grimm, also, I really can't accept that you tried to retcon away the meeting of the Lord of the Flies with Eurostar (and thanks to TTT to have enforced that it DID happen). Why to have Euro talking to the wall? The demon is certainly NOT invisible, or he would be a poor perform for the bar. [wink]

Gooz, Axel's disappearence is intriguing... [whaaaa!]

But maybe La Perdita doesn't have puritan laws concerning the age for drinkings.
In most of the world there aren't, it's just responsability of the bar keeper to sell or not alchoolic beverages to anyone.

There is a point here. La Perdita may not have the same standards for drinking.

I know, i was just throwing out some college related humor.

By me, two bars are right down the block from each other but are both on different police districts. Whenever one is having a really good night, the one in the other district calls the cops on them for "under age drinkers." As it turns out, this about ever other day [DOH!]

Ok guys, I posted the first five pages of my "mega post." I'm breaking it up into two so you guys can put some reactions to whats happening and keep the flow with everyone in the bar.

Yes, Turner has left the bar and he will not return while the team is there. Sam and Danny have also left the bar, please leave them out of the bar.

Danny: I'm doing what we talked about many weeks ago. I hope you didn't change your mind about it all.

Wulf: I'll PM you my next post with all the stuff we talked about. :)

I gotta credit Grimm for the idea behind the Sam/Grimm convo, and thank him again for keeping the Sam sub-plot going when my computer was broken. [biiiig grin]

Euro: I hope you enjoyed my Ed/Turner stuff. Let me know.

Speaking of the thing makes me think of the other thing with Chance, but I don't think I'll be doing that thing, since the story has taken a rather serious tone, and the thing would be very out of place here now that the gang's not having any more fun. Maybe in a few stories from now...
