I'll take that as a compliment, Euro, thanks! Actually, I wrote those possible clients down in an effort to imagine the possibilities where the consulting biz could take us. There are some really cool ideas we could come up with if we took the time to think about them (or at least swipe an idea from an old issue of FANTASTIC FOUR or CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN ).
Pro: Totally understand where you're coming from, man, but some of my best stuff from this story has been planned beforehand, while the rest was me winging it. It turned out to be a fairly good mix, I think. And I DID have a hell of a time writing it (although I'm not sure if everyone could say the same).
I do think that a certain degree of pre-planning needs to happen, or else you get a story like "The All-New, All-Different, All-Spontaneous Message Board League!" which nobody seems interested in. Each story has to have at least ONE good main plot in order to get everyone's brains cooking, wouldn't you agree? We don't all have to agree on the plot beforehand, of course, but it needs to be an idea which has the possibility of each of us contributing our creative juices.
