Somewhere out in the DCU boards is a posting where I lambasted people for trying to get Smallville to "fit" with their preconceived Superman comics continuity.

So far NOTHING except the essentials has remained the same as in the comics. I can't for the life of me understand why the comics community still insists on having Smallville's Clark Kent walk the line to John Byrne.

I for one was exstatic that Perry White was witness to Clark doing superdeeds. This opens up the avenue to a whole reinterpretation of Perry. One that I have never seen realized save for once in Steve Rude's Worlds Finest Prestige book back in the early 90's. That of Perry as a father figure to Clark/Superman and one of the guardians of Metropolis in much the same vein as Batman/Jim Gordon is to Gotham. Having Perry in on the secret would open this up quite nicely I think.

I think the whole point of Smallville is to reimagine and reawaken the Superman myth to a new generation. The further it moves away from the old same old, the better off we all are.
