Hello Shelly.
I have been in Bangkok for the past week, on holiday (its only 2 hours away and as Americans aren't flying still everything is very cheap in this part of the world). In fact the only American I did notice was Angelina Jolie, who ate at the table next to ours in an Italian restaurant at our hotel. Gorgeous looking woman, and a philanthropist - she is a UNHCR goodwill ambassador, and was on her way to the Burmese border to visit refugee camps, where she dropped US$100000 of her own cash to help people out. (And no I didn't ask for her autograph, resisting temptation - famous people do deserve some privacy.)
I also drank tea but the jug every morning for breakfast at the hotel.
