Ack! That's why I don't read this heretic thread, like any good follower of the one true church of the Kool Aid that I am. And you will all pay, when the all mighty Kool Aid, he who breaks walls, returns and breaks the walls of the non believers! "

LOL! Don't worry TyphoidDave. The only time this sort of happened was on the Saturday night when some guy cornered me and proceeded with the immortal chat up lne - ""I'm in comics"". Sorry to reply to something so far back in the thread, but I had to respond with a resounding YAY! because despite not knowing this until now I actually bought some Oddcases stuff at Bristol, so the fact that there turns out to be a Lucifer connection just confirms my instinctive good taste and now I can really look forward to getting round to reading it. You haven't read it yet? Shame on you. I mean, there's even an intro from the Headmaster in it. Essential reading for anyone who is stalking Mike.... uh, a big fan of Mike. Ermmm.... I know there was something else I was going to say here but I have totally forgotten what it was. Something about Bristol possibly. Maybe just that Jen Van Meter (writer of Hopeless Savages for Oni) is incredibly lovely. We gave her copies of the Oddcases and Queen Of Diamonds stories which she took politely and said she'd read, and then later I was wandering past the table she was sat at and she called out my name (getting it right into the bargain) and chatted for ages about what she liked about it and stuff and seemed genuinly eager to discuss it. So that made me very happy indeed. :) "

Fantastic! And she didn't call you ""Beavis"" so she must be an admirable being. Hope the portfolio session went well too. :) I raced straight back from Bristol to go clubbing, then did it again, then kept going... so I've spent a lot of this week sitting limply on the sofa drinking some fortifying tea to recover. PG Tips, with the occasional cup of peppermint or gunpowder tea for variety - except the gunpowder smells a bit too much like bacon at the moment. So either my precarious physical state is affecting my nose or the Smell Demon has crawled into the box and altered it while I was asleep. I'm blaming the Smell Demon this time. "

"Nope, got the name exactly right which automatically makes her even more fantastic. OK so we'd introduced ourselves earlier but I was still very chuffed.
And the portfolio crit was pretty good. It did mean waiting in line for nearly two hours (there were so many points were I almost gave up and left) but it was worth it. I still have no idea who it was that did the crit though. He was sitting next to Mike Carlin and I think he said his name was Richard (by that time I was half asleep so it could have been almost anything ) and I'd have felt a bit silly asking 'I know who he is, but who are you exactly?'. He he. Anyone help me out here? Mike, do you know who it was?
Anyhoo he was very good. Picked up on things that I know are a problem and that I'm working on, so that was encouraging. And also picked up on the things that I think are my strong points. Basically said that my pencils are stronger than my inking which is a little tentative (which is very true), that my hands need work because the feeling and the expressiveness is there but the technical execution of them is a little off (he also noticed that most of my characters are left handed simply because I draw using my left hand as a guide. Heh), that I never draw feet and I should do it a little more because people subconciously pick up on things like that even if they don't really notice it properly and that some of my faces look a little odd when you compare the same character full on to profile or three-quarters, which again is true enough. He also said that my backgrounds were a little iffy which is partially true but was also a failing in the stuff I had in the portfolio simply because I didn't really have any pages that really included backgrounds at all.
Hmm. That makes it sound all very negative, but it wasn't really. He did say I wasn't the kind of artist that would be a mainstream DC choice but that didn't rule me out from less... superhero comics. And he said he thought the two Black Canary pics were great, which I was very chuffed by. So I was pretty pleased. The criticism was all very constructive and even though they were really pushed for time he spent a good long while going over the good and bad points of my stuff and gave pointers to how I could improve, hints on various stuff and things like that. The wait was awful but the actual chat with him was very good. I'd recommend doing it to anyone else wanting to get into comic art, although the best piece of advice would definately be to get into the queue as early as possible."

"I'd start by saying this is off topic but I no longer know what passes for topic around this thread anymore. Suffice it to say it has nothing to do with tea, tang or marmite which is possibly the closest I can get to a definition.
Anyway, I'm currently rereading all of Lucifer (just finished Triptych) and it has an interesting side effect. In addition to remembering all the of the interesting plot points and making them easier to connect (now that we know more of the story) it's also making me remember past threads that we've posted and discussed on this very bored.
One point in particular around the time of the Triptych story arc was a discussion on if Mike would ever consider publishing a story recounting the fall of Lucifer. We were weakening him (thanks in no small part to Lord Savant and and his handy travel edition torture kit) and I was wondering if there was still any consideration on Mike's part to tell this story. Because if it would be helpful, I think I still have the bamboo shoots in the back of my closet.
And to borrow from another thread...wouldn't it be a great story if it was the eggmen who drove Lucifer to rebel.
GOD: ""I have placed the eggmen above all in my employ."" LUCIFER: What?! Oh you're off your rocker G. Somebody should take your @$$ out!! GOD: Who? You lightbringer? Hah, get a haircut! LUCIFER: I could build twice the universe you did. And with no infernal eggmen! GOD: You and what army? LUCIFER: The Basanos. GOD: Isn't that the group led by a little blond girl. LUCIFER: Hey, she's tougher than she looks G. GOD: Yeah...I'm shakin'.
...Mike, you can just pick it up right there. Another public service from your friends at Papercutfun Inc.
