"The best part about living in Canada and having a soccer (I know, I know, ""football"" but my mind doesn't work that way) team that's not very good means that the country breaks into several cultural pockets to celebrate their home countries during the world cup. This makes for a schizophrenic (sp?) nation where pockets of spontaneous elation and depression creep up all day every day depending on who wins each game.

Yesterday for example, I was on-set for a short film, when Korea beat Italy. The set happened to be in a heavily Korean influenced part of Toronto and the celebrating went on from the moment we started shooting to well after we had wrapped, 7 hours later. It pretty much ruined the sound for the shoot but it was amazing to watch groups of people (who should have been working) spontaneously form into parades. In hindsight, we should have been filming in the ""little Italy"" section of the city, but who knew????"
