Actually, I think Mike had two pets as a child, a cat named Mikoto, and a canary named Susano. This explains a name many of us found rather puzzling:
9-year-old-Mike: Susano, Susano, where are you?
(Rund around searching, comes upon Mikoto licking his jowls)
9YOM: Susano? Oh no! Mikoto!!
