I saw the quotes from Robertson and Falwell, and saw a few more from other "Christians." Do they realize that by taking this view - that America is controlled by degenerate libertines who deserve God's punishment - that they're AGREEING with the Islamic extremists who did this?

and just as bad as "agreeing" with the terrorists -- they're misleading the world, in the same way the terrorists did. islam, and islamics, as we've learned more than ever over the past week or so, are peaceful people with a wonderful, beautiful faith. the terrorists, tho from the same area, and share similar qualities and characteristics, are not islamics. tho they use that religion as a cause, and use the islamic god (or the islamic name for god) as a justification, they dont represent the religion at all, and its a shame that they disgrace it in such a way by attempting to relate themselves. fallwell is doing the same thing for christians. the nazi's did the same thing for germans. horrifying.

Absolutely correct, Rob. Just for clarity, I don't want anyone to think that I'm equating all Muslims with terrorists, as so many others are doing now. In fact, if reports are to be believed, these men were in fact bad muslims. They were seen in bars getting drunk, which is explicitly forbidden by the Koran. Moreover, both murder and suicide are strictly forbidden by Islam. These murderers no more represent Islam than Timothy McVeigh represented Christian American values.

I would like to measure who's jaw drops the lowest, Falwell,Robertson or Binny Boy when they find their messages of "faith" were not really what God had in mind on how to treat your fellow humans when Judgement Day arrives.

I am so SICK of guys like Fallwell and Pat Robertson giving Christians a bad name. I'm still irritable over his "The Anti-Christ is a Jew!" comment.

"Peaceful people...?" For a peace-loving faith, the Islamic world is a very violent place, and not just the tiny percentage of so-called radical extremists. The whole Muslim world is intolerant, violent and brutal toward women. A Christian in the Muslim world is not safe. Falwell and Robertson are idiotic in their own way, but this warm fuzzy view of Islamic faith amazes me. Algeria, Libya, Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan... where is this mythical peaceful Islamic state I hear spoken of? I just read a news article that the only reason we didn't see more crowds of laughing cheering jubilant Palestinians in every city in the West Bank and Gaza, gloating over the death of thousands of Americans on September 11th, is that Arafat and the PLO were confiscating media cameras, and threatened to kill any journalist who broadcast or published more images of cheering Palestinians. Speaking as an arreligious individual, I must say there is a reason to respect those who have worship particular religions, but denounce those who are... how shall I say, over-zealous in their faith, such that they use religion as a weapon to attack others. Catholics, (not jumping on all of them, mind you, because my mom is one, and I know moderate and non-practicing Catholics) but adamant over-zealous Catholics can go to extremes similar to those as preached by Falwell and his fellow fuckwads. What do I mean, well... there is the issue of homosexuality, but also the issue of what happened during WWII..., when the Pope did not come out against the Holocaust or Nazis, and seemed to almost condone the actions (he was believed to be a strong anti-Semite). I was speaking to an elderly relative on the issue of the Holocaust (one who is Catholic) and this person said, maybe it was God's Will. That disgusted me to no end. To hear this person's strong anti- Jewish sentiment ring out and try to justify everything through faith and religion... that is what these people do. The worst part is, there are Americans who actually listen to this shit. They pay and donate money to the causes of these asses who preach about Saints and sinners. Bin Laden would have turned out differently had his tutor not been an ardent right wing Islamic fundamentalist. The mind is so easily bent and warped.

This is true. The Vatican gave Hitler his first widespread diplomatic recognition. This is partly what enabled him to do what he did to the Jews, without question. Hitler played to Catholic-based anti-semitism that began at the time of the Crusades in the tenth century, orchestrated by the Vatican.
The current Pope publicly apologized about a year ago for the Catholic Church's past complicity in the Nazi Holocaust. On the other end of the issue, Catholics were sometimes also arrested and put in concentration camps, as real or potential dissenters of Nazi rule. "In Germany they first came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me --and by that time there was no one left to speak up." Pastor Martin Neimoller
