This comes from the Rumor Mill section of www.digitalbits.comTake it with a grain of salt.... but don't put it past Lucas. quote: One other note today... we've heard from a number of interesting (and we believe reliable) inside sources that Lucsafilm is currently making major new changes to the original Star Wars films - the kind of changes he began a few years ago with the theatrical "Special Edition" releases. These changes include new special effects, revised and updated shots and scenes, and new footage shot with actors Hayden Christensen (Anakin) and Ian McDiarmid (the Emperor) that would flesh out moments with their characters in the original films. For example, an aged and scarred Hayden now appears as Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi when Luke removes Vader's helmet. Among the other changes reportedly being made are the restoration of the original "Han shoots first" moment from Star Wars and a revamped lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Vader. What we've heard meshes with what we've been told before, which is that Lucas has always planned to release ultimate, "Archive" editions of these films that tie in better with the new prequels. The main question in our minds now is this: will these changes be completed in time to appear on the DVD releases planned for next September, or will we have to wait until after Episode III hits theaters to see them? And if we have to wait, what versions will appear on the DVDs? Time will tell.

meh- I can handle it, I have the original trilogy already, I honestly think it wouldn't be so bad to update them and have them fit in with the new trilogy and I've been a fan since a child.

Not cool for Sebastian Shaw (the actor that originally did Anakin Skywalker in Return of the Jedi). He originally did that scene, he should be the one to get credit, not that cock boy Hayden. No reason to fuck with that scene. Improving the CGI, I can deal with, but don't go adding shit just to add shit! dumb fucker! We have to add new story, that way I don't have to stay with my original plot!

I don't think Lucas realizes what he already has a hit on his hands! If it sells as is, then why go through all the bother of making alterations so that it's more 'identifiable' with a Trilogy that, while fans may have been asking for, soon regretted asking for once they found out what it was. Basically, I don't see the logic in all these 'changes' Lucas is making. Makes little to no sense to me...

The DVDs being released next year are the Special Editions we saw in 1997, believe me. If this bullshit is true, it'll be part of the Ultimate Editions for 2005-6. Here's the list o' crap!
Episode IV: A New Hope
01. The Imperial March has been added to Darth Vader's first appearance on Princess Leia's ship.
02. When Obi-Wan is talking to Luke about his father Anakin's Theme plays in the background and then it turns into the Imperial March as he talks about Vader.
03. The lightsaber effects have been redone and the frame jumps of lightsabers being turned on has been removed.
04. There's a new scene which has been shot during the filming of Episode III in which the Emperor dissolves the Senate.
05. In the Cantina, the Duros (green aliens guys) have been replaced with Neimoidians and some aliens from the prequels have been added.
06. The bleeding arm on the floor in the Cantina has been replaced with a non-bleeding arm because it's now canon that lightsabers cauterize wounds.
07. The original shooting scene between Han and Greedo has been restored.
08. Jabba the Hutt has been given a makeover and Han no longer steps on his tale.
09. In place of R2 wobbling down the stairs to the Falcon's hangar, a CG R2 navigating the stairs like he does in Attack of the Clones was added.
10. The white boxes around space ships have been removed and new CG shots have been added.
11. The scene of the Falcon being chased by the two Star Destroyers was modified. The Falcon now does spinning moves, avoiding the Star Destroyers' fire.
12. When the Death Star destroys Alderaan there's a new scene of Yoda's reaction to the disturbance in the Force that is created by all those deaths and then it cuts to Obi-Wan reacting to it as well.
13. The Dianoga has gotten a CG makeover and were are now able to see more of the creature.
14. The Death Star's paneling and computers have been slightly altered to show similar displays to those in the prequels.
15. The words "Tractor Beam" with Aurebesh lettering.
16. More stormtroopers have been added to the Death Star.
17. Some Storm Troopers will wear clone like armor
18. The Obi-Wan/Vader duel has been spruced up. It is much more epic and there is much more movement. A modified version of Duel of the Fates is being considered for the scene.
19. The Death Star plans that are taken from R2 have been updated. When the Rebels are reviewing the Death Star plans they look similar to the plans we see in Attack of the Clones.
20. The Death Star battle is much more epic with more Tie Fighters and more Rebels being blown to bits. We get to see old Naboo starfighters being used by the Rebels.
21. There's a new scene (shot during Episode III) where Darth Vader goes to Coruscant and lands his ship in the same building Count Dooku does at the end of Attack of the Clones. Except now the building is all fixed up and it is now Palpatine's palace. He meets with Palpatine to ask for forgiveness for his failure and inform him of a new potential who is strong in the Force.
22. Chewbacca now gets a medal.
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
01. The taun-tauns are now CG.
02. The battle of Hoth is much more epic. We see the Imperial ships land on Hoth and release AT-ATs. The AT-ATs have been sped up a bit. There's a ground battle between the Rebel soldiers and stormtroopers featuring new ships and vehicles.
03. Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for the older stormtroopers.
04. The white boxes around space ships have been removed.
05. The slug monster is CG.
06. Ian McDiarmid has refilmed scenes as the Emperor. The conversations between Vader and Palpatine is now longer and features a few connections to the prequels.
07. Yoda's face is now animated in CG allowing more expression of emotions yet his movements remain the same. Also two deleted scenes featuring Yoda instructing Luke have been restored.
08. A new scene was shot in which the stormtroopers, after they capture Han, Leia and Chewie, bring Vader the box containing C-3PO in pieces. Vader orders the stormtroopers to bring the broken droid to Chewbacca's cell so that he can fix him.
09. The lightsaber effects have been redone in certain parts.
10. Luke's fall from Cloud City has been reshot against bluescreen using a stuntman.
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
01. Jabba the Hutt is now a combination of the puppet and CG.
02. The Rancor is CG and looks disgusting as ever.
03. Yoda is CG. Yoda disappears leaving his clothes behind like Obi-Wan now.
04. Saber effects were spruced up
05. The plan is to insert the love theme Across the Stars when Luke is talking with Leia about their mother.
06. Temuera Morrison's like before is now the voice for some stormtroopers.
07. In the battle of Endor there more Ewoks and they are more vicious
08. White boxes around ships removed.
09. The black blotches around Palpatine's face are gone.
10. Some of the lightsaber effects have been redone. The shadows that the lightsabers made on the floor are gone.
11. During Anakin's death scene it starts with a sad rendition of the Imperial March and slowly evolves into Anakin's Theme.
12. Anakin's spirit is now played by Hayden Christenson with make-up to make him look his age. He looks on proudly at his son Luke with the spirit of Padme by his side.

Y'know, sometimes the imperfections are what makes the film endearing to fans. Should we redo Wizard of Oz? Should we colorize It's A Wonderful Life? Can you picture using CG for the boat jumping stunt in Live and Let Die? That stunt made the Guiness Book of World Records! Lucas should leave well enough alone. What if he decides that Mel Gibson would make a better Han Solo? Should he edit out Harrison Ford and CG Mel into the movie?
Lucas should focus more on making an episode 7,8 and 9 to make up for the rather pedestrian output that 1 and 2 have been. New Hope is still the best movie of them all.

Actually, the first version of "It's A Wonderful Life" I ever saw was a colorized version, from the wish-I-could-forget-it 1980s "Ted Turner Colorizes everything but the moon" phase.

02. When Obi-Wan is talking to Luke about his father Anakin's Theme plays in the background and then it turns into the Imperial March as he talks about Vader.
In the prequils, the music is too loud. Also, there is too much. The nice thing about the originals is that there isn't always music.
quote: 03. The lightsaber effects have been redone and the frame jumps of lightsabers being turned on has been removed.
I have not problem with this. This is just further clean up. I am disapointed that they didn't take care of this the first time, with the Special Editions.
quote: 04. There's a new scene which has been shot during the filming of Episode III in which the Emperor dissolves the Senate.
This is kind of cool. It doesn't change anything that has happened. In fact, it lets us see what Corruscant looks like with Palpatin as Emperor.
quote: 05. In the Cantina, the Duros (green aliens guys) have been replaced with Neimoidians and some aliens from the prequels have been added.
I don't see the point in replacing aliens. I like that they are adding more species, but I just don't see the point in replacing aliens who are prominent in the books.
quote: 06. The bleeding arm on the floor in the Cantina has been replaced with a non-bleeding arm because it's now canon that lightsabers cauterize wounds.
I though it was always canon. Truth is, I never thought about this scene, b/c every time I've seen or read about a lightsaber wound, it was cauterized. Minor detail. Makes sense to fix it, though. In EST, when Luke loses his hand, there is no blood. Again, they should have fixed this for the Special Edition.
quote: 07. The original shooting scene between Han and Greedo has been restored.
Glad Lucas finally grew his balls back.
quote: 08. Jabba the Hutt has been given a makeover and Han no longer steps on his tale.
This was just stupid to begin with. They could have done this scene right with the Special Edition.
quote: 09. In place of R2 wobbling down the stairs to the Falcon's hangar, a CG R2 navigating the stairs like he does in Attack of the Clones was added.
This is something they absolutely had to change. But, the truth is they shouldn't have made R2 fly to begin with. I say change the scene at the scource, Episode 2. This really messes things up. I', sure quite a few authors could have used this bit of info on R2 for some of the books. It's just bull shit.
quote: 10. The white boxes around space ships have been removed and new CG shots have been added.
Okay...?
quote: 11. The scene of the Falcon being chased by the two Star Destroyers was modified. The Falcon now does spinning moves, avoiding the Star Destroyers' fire.
Eh, why not? I don't think it changes anything. It just adds to the believability of the story.
quote: 12. When the Death Star destroys Alderaan there's a new scene of Yoda's reaction to the disturbance in the Force that is created by all those deaths and then it cuts to Obi-Wan reacting to it as well.
This is completely unnecessary. I'm sure it will look cool. But, it serves no purpose. And, if Lucas knew what he was doing, he would leave Yoda's fate at the end of Episode 3 unknown. Then, for someone watching from the begining, for the first time, when they get to ESB, and Obi-Wan tells Luke to go to Yoda, the person will be: "Oh, cool! Yoda is alive!" Way to ruin it.
quote: 13. The Dianoga has gotten a CG makeover and were are now able to see more of the creature.
The what?
quote: 14. The Death Star's paneling and computers have been slightly altered to show similar displays to those in the prequels.
15. The words "Tractor Beam" with Aurebesh lettering.
16. More stormtroopers have been added to the Death Star.
17. Some Storm Troopers will wear clone like armor
Minor stuff.
quote: 18. The Obi-Wan/Vader duel has been spruced up. It is much more epic and there is much more movement. A modified version of Duel of the Fates is being considered for the scene.
I'm not so sure I like this. Obi-Wan never meant to fight Vader, so the scene should remain a let-down. It is fine the way it is.
quote: 19. The Death Star plans that are taken from R2 have been updated. When the Rebels are reviewing the Death Star plans they look similar to the plans we see in Attack of the Clones.
Minor stuff. The graphics used on the screen suck. They should have been modified already for the Special Edition.
quote: 20. The Death Star battle is much more epic with more Tie Fighters and more Rebels being blown to bits. We get to see old Naboo starfighters being used by the Rebels.
They have to add the Naboo fighters. They backed themselves into a corner. The truth is, I am looking forward to a bigger battle scene. I always thought the initial rebel fleet that attacked the Death Star was too small and unbelievable. Why would the Emperor send the Death Star to destroy a couple of one-man fighters? That never made sense.
quote: 21.
OK. But doesn't this makes some conversation in ESB obsolete?
quote: 22. Chewbacca now gets a medal.
He should have been given one in the first place.
quote: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back 01. The taun-tauns are now CG.
Ok.
quote: 02. The battle of Hoth is much more epic. We see the Imperial ships land on Hoth and release AT-ATs. The AT-ATs have been sped up a bit. There's a ground battle between the Rebel soldiers and stormtroopers featuring new ships and vehicles.
I don't see the point. The original battle was always perfect. And why add knew vehicles? (I know. It's a marketing thing. I shouldn't bother to ask.)
quote: 03. Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for the older stormtroopers.
Ok.
quote: 04. The white boxes around space ships have been removed.
Huh?
quote: 05. The slug monster is CG.
Ok. But I get the feeling they will go over the top with this one.
quote: 06. Ian McDiarmid has refilmed scenes as the Emperor. The conversations between Vader and Palpatine is now longer and features a few connections to the prequels.
Ok. I hope they add in relevant info to further the story. If not, then there is no point.
quote: 07. Yoda's face is now animated in CG allowing more expression of emotions yet his movements remain the same. Also two deleted scenes featuring Yoda instructing Luke have been restored.
They may as well make Yoda entirely CGI. Lucas should just release the original versions on DVD, and then come out with this new edition, with all of the CGI. But, they are probably waiting for a later edition to replace Yoda with full CGI.
quote: 08. A new scene was shot in which the stormtroopers, after they capture Han, Leia and Chewie, bring Vader the box containing C-3PO in pieces. Vader orders the stormtroopers to bring the broken droid to Chewbacca's cell so that he can fix him.
I guess this makes sense. I never did get why Chewie was allowed to have 3PO's parts with him in the cell.
quote: 09. The lightsaber effects have been redone in certain parts.
10. Luke's fall from Cloud City has been reshot against bluescreen using a stuntman.
Um...okay...why?
quote: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
01. Jabba the Hutt is now a combination of the puppet and CG.
02. The Rancor is CG and looks disgusting as ever.
03. Yoda is CG. Yoda disappears leaving his clothes behind like Obi-Wan now.
04. Saber effects were spruced up
Ok. May as well.
quote: 05. The plan is to insert the love theme Across the Stars when Luke is talking with Leia about their mother.
Why? I always though the music was fine.
quote: 06. Temuera Morrison's like before is now the voice for some stormtroopers.
Just playing catch-up.
quote: 07. In the battle of Endor there more Ewoks and they are more vicious
I don't know. They never struck me as supposed to being vicious. I always took them as the comic relief.
quote: 08. White boxes around ships removed.
Ok. I thought they took care of all this stuff already. Guess not.
quote: 09. The black blotches around Palpatine's face are gone.
I guess Lucas wants to change his make-up.
quote: 10. Some of the lightsaber effects have been redone. The shadows that the lightsabers made on the floor are gone.
Never noticed any shadows.
quote: 11. During Anakin's death scene it starts with a sad rendition of the Imperial March and slowly evolves into Anakin's Theme.
Why? Why change perfection?
quote: 12. Anakin's spirit is now played by Hayden Christenson with make-up to make him look his age. He looks on proudly at his son Luke with the spirit of Padme by his side.
This is just wrong. Luke doesn't know who his mother is. How does it help him to see her next to his father? And besides, only those powerful in the force can project themselves for a short time after death.
It seems to me that this is just a bunch of fan-boys fucking around with greatness.
Enough already.

I must confess, some of that stuff sounds mighty interesting! Some of it however, is completely unneccessary, what, has already been established above! I don´t really mind improvements, aslong as they are just that, improvements. Of course, it´s hard to know if something is really an improvement until you see it. Something that sounds really great may be a total dissapointment while another thing that seems completely stupid may be the best that has ever happened to the movie. As I said, I don´t mind improvements, or add-ons, as long as they really are improvements and that the add-ons don´´t ruin the story, but rather further the story, establish more connections between the movies. In a good way mind you! And one more thing, I have never seen any white boxes around the ships, what are they talking about? ![[eh?]](images/icons/confused.gif)

well, aern't i glad I have the Original Trilogy on CAV Laserdisc. It was the best Christmas gift I've probably ever gotten (from my then girlfreind, now wife) and now I can iuse it to convert the original trilogy to DVD. A few of the changes I don't mind as I thought they should have been done during the Special Editions. Such as the scene when the Falcon evades the Star Destroyers. The lightsaber scene (by all rights Alec Guiness should have been cut down in that 2 minutes it took him to make that retarded twirl). Seeing a more "epic" fight might not be so bad. The CGI jabba from the Special Edition Ep IV always reminded me of those CGI peanut butter cups you sometimes see before the movie. Completely unrealistic looking and nowhere near the quality of the Hutt in Ep I. A CGI rancor, I don't particularly mind either. Now seeing as Hayden Christensen isn't very engaging under Lucas' direction (who is?! ![[eh?]](images/icons/confused.gif) ), having him replace actors in the original trilogy seems unwise. Um..."Ewoks are more vicious". Oh god, are they going to bare their teeth and act all feral??!! Wearn't they stupid enough already without them now Hyde-ing out halfway thru the film? So Greedo doesn't shoot first after all? Nice to see Lucas stands by his retarded convictions. I guess that means Han is still a scoundrel. Now the music in the current trilogy isn't really all that memorable anyways. Only the uber-geeky who can actually recognize "themes" and who actually buy sountrack albums will gush. Is Luke still going to shreik like a girl when he falls down the shaft in Cloud City? Well see. Like I said, no worries. I already have digital versions of the original trilogy. If you don't, I'm sure there are about 1001 different people selling the laserdisc version converted to DVD out there somewhere. Luca$$, like the studios better realize that piracy only happens when demand isn't met affordably if at all.

Go back to a videotape of the original trilogy. In most of the effects shots with ships, you can see crop marks all around the spaceships. Sometimes the black space around the ships is a different shade than the black of the actual background. As if the ships were cut and pasted onto the background. It actually was quite noticable and not just people being too critical and picky.

My only gripes with the special effects after all these years are: 1) The boxes around the ships..grey is more appropriate than white..most of which was cleaned up in the special editions.
2) The Rancor scene always sucked and was never cleaned up.
3) The black splotches around palpatine's face (very annoying)were never cleaned up which never made any sense.
Not much really. I didn't like several things about ROTJ, but honestly that's Lucas' problem with story..not a special effect. Honestly, Why doesn't lucas just recast and reshoot the entire first trilogy and call it a remake? He could make big money and redo everything.

And for cripe's sake..I saw Empire in the theater when it came out and there was a scene at the very end where Luke was in the medical bay and the medical droid brought him a tray of various hands to choose from. He picked the human one, but there were several alien species for him to choose from....
where the fuck did that scene disappear to? Others besides myself have agreed that it was in the original theatrical release..yet it has never been on any tape version of the movie. What did Lucas do with it? Give me back my favorite scene you punk.....

A scene I´d like to see is when Darth Vader strangles one of the Crimson Guards when he let Vader through to the Emperor. As far as I know it has never been shown but it should exist in the archives at Skywalker Ranch

I'd have no problem with Lucas butchering his own film if he only gave us, the buyers, the choice to see the versions that we want. At least when Speilberg chopped up E.T., he pushed Universal to release the DVD in a two disc set. One disc has his re-release. The other had the original version. I'd be happy if Lucas gave me that. But he's not, and he's an ass. Most of his other film attempts outside of Star Wars and Indiana Jones failed miserably. I guess he's just wanting to run the money horse into the ground.
Oh, as far as Episodes 7-9, Lucas has completly denied ever having planned them. Even though I can remember reading old interviews when the original trilogy came out that had everyone talking about them. I even read one with Mark Hamil around the time of the Special Editions and the gearing up for Ep.1 where he mentioned the original idea of 9 movies made three years apart. Ah, revisionist Lucas history.

I also remember reading what Lucas had to say in interviews. He said that Episodes IV - VI are the middle of the story. He also said, after he began to work on the sript for Episode I, that it would be fun to do another trilogy with the original cast, when they are older, after Episode III is released.
So, he is in the process of fucking up the first three parts now.
Truth is, I don't want to see his version of Episodes VII - IX.
I like the books. I think that the authors responsible for the expanded universe (especially Timothy Zahn) are a hell of a lot better at telling Star Wars stories than Lucas is.
Now, that hand scene sound cool. Too bad he decided to bury it.
As for releasing the movies in two disc sets, I disagree. I say keep them separate.
But, he absolutely must release the original version on DVD.
He should release what ever he is calling this new version separately.

That actually happened, once. CBS unearthed the Christmas episode years ago and colorized it.

I swear, there is no dignity in Hollywood. If they colorize Munsters or Addams Family I will go berserk.
I hate CG personally. I bet stuntmen do too, because it will eventually put them out of work.

Here's some Episode III info I've collected in the past week. Remember, this is all rumor for now. quote: Besides the usual roundup, these cast members are making their return:
Joel Edgerton - Owen Lars Jay Laga'aia - Captain Typho Christopher Lee – Count Dooku Rena Owen - Taun We Jimmy Smits – Bail Organa Others: Chewbacca, Nute Gunray, Rune Haako, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Sly Moore, Barriss Offee, Shaak Ti, Luminara Undulia, Mace, Orn Free Taa, and of course, Yoda.
- Jar Jar does NOT die in Episode III. - Threepio is finally finished and complete for the duration of the film. And from what I know, he’s isn't comic relief. - Yoda's homeworld or species will not be revealed. - No rematch between Yoda and Dooku though both will have their own fights. - There is no location shooting for EP 3. It’s all digital. - No extra shots of Natalie Portman will be put in the classic trilogy. So far. - There is a lava planet in the film. - There are two new alien species in Episode III. - We won't see Geonosis or Dantooine in Episode III. - Sidious will remove his hood in Episode III. - Force ghosts will be explained. Of course, remember we heard that before. At least they have filmed something about it this time. - In AOTC, we did see the person who ordered the clones. - "I have a bad feeling about this" will be said one more time. - When things go down, Mace decides to go have a little chat with Palpatine. - Padme does die. More interesting is how and who is involved.
The Newbies
Apparently there’s another mysterious user of the Force. He’s been described to look "a little like an albino Jedi with white eyebrows and a creamy white beard similar to Liam Neeson's beard in TPM - he had quite pale skin and appeared human, and about the same height as Ewan McGreggor. His gaze was disturbing to behold (perhaps it was the young face behind the short white beard and hair) and he was dressed as a Jedi and carried a lightsaber." This albino dude, dubbed the "Milky Bar" Jedi wears clothes similar in style and color of Anakin’s which is of course draker than the usual Jedi garb. Another Sith? A another 'tweener, perhaps?
That girl from the movie Whale Rider, Keisha Castle-Hughes, is playing a role of a "regal leader". The obvious thing most people suspect is a new Queen of Naboo. I’m not sure if it’s the same “Milky Bar” Jedi, but there’s a new bad guy in Episode III. In all reports, he wears white armor, sports two lightsabers, wears a cloak, is involved in a major chase sequence, is NOT a Sith or Jedi traitor. Sounds like that one Cartoon Network Clone Wars super-clonetrooper, Whatshisname. Reportedly, he has a big fight scene with Obi Wan involving his ship and a "creature". Weird.
Notes
During the space battle scene, Obi-Wan, Anakin and Plo Koon are in the new upgraded Jedi Starfighters. They get attacked from behind and Plo bites it. Those who’ve worked on it say the opening space battle in terms of scale and scope is bigger than anything we've seen. The animatics were more challenging because it's a journey rather than a single event.
The Death Star plans are not a focal point of the plot to Episode III. No evidence of it being built either.
One of the first scenes that takes place is a rematch between Anakin and Dooku. This occurs in about the first ten minutes. Apparently, Palpatine is captured by the Separatists and is shackled to his chair watching them fight (with commentary). Anakin (or someone else) kills Dooku.
Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, our trusted and tragic prequel heroes found themselves swimming in the big mysterious pool set. Obi-wan will be fighting a droid underwater, and Anakin sounds to be up to his neck with trouble as he is stuck in a room that is filling quickly with the wet stuff.
The clones are getting older since their growth is accelerated as established in Attack of the Clones, possibly making them roughly the age (40?) of the original Jango Fett in Episode II. Certainly there are batches of clones already at that earlier stage of development.
There will be parts of the film that are leaps of faith similar to the Yoda fight and pod race. And part of the challenge is the massive scale involved with bigger and more complicated shots.
Tarkin is in the film. Well, actually just a pieces of him. As prosthetic make-up. He IS in the film though all that anyone has seen so far is his makeup tests - we've yet to hear a name about the guy who plays him and what kind of a role he will have. But he is in it ... shoot, I wish I had been able to take a picture for you. He's perfect! I can confirm it is just an extra as Tarkin. In face, as far as a speaking role I would think that if he's in a mask (he didn't say prosthetic makeup for sure) I'd doubt it. That's just conjecture on my part though. I guess there's a possibility that the extra in the mask could be for shots where Tarkin's in the background and they could use a featured actor in makeup for 'hero' shots later on down the line. More guessing there.
There is a point in the film when the clone troopers turn on their Jedi generals. Yoda is on Kashyyyk when this happens. Then Wookiees strike back. The original version of the scene involved them fighting alongside Yoda - fighting off clonetroopers. They're all dressed up in battle armor and everything. At one point (not sure how this will play out in the end) it was decided that everyone of them would die except Chewbacca, giving him motivation for helping the Rebellion against the Empire in the classic trilogy.
We will see R2 in a "rescue" situation in Episode III. Plus, the little dude will be in the back of a small fighter ship at some point in the final SW movie, participating in a space battle and will witness a lightsaber fight. Who knows which one, there are three big ones total…allegedly.
There's an entire environment that will be bigger than anything seen in any Star Wars film that will be primarily digital. What this is, no one but the cast, crew, animators and Lucas knows... and they ain’t talkin'.
Sam Jackson mentioned that he was the one being attacked in the duel by, for now, an unknown assailant. He also mentioned that the fight area covered about 400 yards and that he jumps off steps and various other things.
Anakin vs. Obi-Wan: It's going to be fast-paced and violent. The imagery is going to be FAR MORE GRAPHIC then anyone would suspect from a Star Wars film. I'm talking definitely PG-13 material. It's not a gentleman's duel. It will get nasty (when asked about kicks and moves similar to Darth Maul). When they said this one was going to be dark, they meant it. Anakin is burnt to a crisp from neck down in what I saw, indeed his hair has been burned away and his head contains the exact same scarring we see in Jedi, including that large tear/scar. However, his face is WAY more burned up and disfigured than is seen in Jedi. Presumably some of the disfigurement has healed over the years when he finally is liberated by Luke. Plus, he loses more limbs. One confirmed limb loss is his right leg, knee-down. I really can't overestimate how freaky it was...if this incarnation sees the light of the day on the big screen, be prepared for a really disturbing sight. In fact, burned to a crisp is an understatement.
Wild rumors have it the final scene shot was Vader aboard the bridge of a newly commissioned star destroyer. On an unrelated note, there is a scene where we see Darth Vader getting his name and what it means.
 Obi Wan's new droid

As with everything Star Wars since '99, what starts off sounding super-cool at first will only let you down immensely once the finished product is presented to you.
Still, I actually hope it redeems some part of it's former self during this final episode.

It sounds really good. The only thing that can ruin this is poor acting and poor dialogue. Unfortunately, the previous two films were loaded with these problems, so I doubt this one will be any different. Very sad. On the bright side, my hopes are so low that I doubt anything can ruin this movie for me. ![[eh?]](images/icons/confused.gif)

Exactly, my expectations will be so low that ET would seem good. The whole digital filming process worries me a bit..it would worry me more if I was even remotely caring anymore.
I just go to see the lightsabers and jedis and shit..the fetts don't hurt either..
Hopefully the LOTR trilogy will make Lucas see the light a bit, and get a bit nervous as Star Wars is about to fall as the best or one of the best trilogies.

A Brit's recollection of a Star Wars Presentation at the London Toy Fair! Quote:
The presentation opened up with a 20 minute montage of what Star Wars has meant over the last 20 years or so and then it was announced that unlike other star wars movies they were giving us a synopsis of the movie and then bang we were into it. It was explained that what we were seeing was
A. Rough Early Footage
B. Animation
C. Storyboards
D. Blue Screen footage
It starts with the fact that the Senator Palpatine has been kidnapped by the renegades because of the continuing clone wars. Anakin and Obi-Wan are sent to rescue him. It is basically a 'podrace-in-space' feel, with both of them in their own spacecraft, not seen in any of the previous movies. They are attacked while approaching star destroyers but and if memory serves Saw Droids (look a little similar to Matrix Sentinals but smaller) Obi-Won is attacked by 5 or 6 of them and is going to die. Anakin comes to the rescue by bashing the ship with his ship and knocking them off. This was footage and looked rough but very cool
We are then told over black screen that the rescue was successful BUT
We next see them into the control room of the star destroyer with no bad guys around but the ship is out of control and approaching and going to crash in a planet. We see the ship starting to burn up in the atmosphere and half the ship gets blown away. Our heroes we are told escape. Again footage rough but good.
The film, we are next told is set on two planets (again the names escape me) one is the planet primarily of water and mountains but the mountains have dwellings on the side, and another is the wookie planet (Kashyyyk: TK), where we are told we will meet Chewbacca. Who becomes a great hero because of this film. Storyboards
We are then told that Amidala is pregnant by Anakin - no images just storyboards.
We are then told that in the movie we will see how C3PO and R2D2 move from Ep 3 to A New Hope as it is hinted that they are passed to somebody's position.
We next encounter Obi-Wan who is investigating a matter for the Jedi on the Mountain planet, the only way of climbing a mountain is on a creature, similar to bantha but much much bigger and very speedy who runs up the mountains, bit like a taxi.
- This is animation
We are told that the clone wars are going the way of the separatists and that something is causing the Jedi to be wiped out - but we do not know why or by who.
We are then told there are two climactic battles
1. Yoda/Anakin/Obi-Wan vs New Evil Guy and Emperor: This is shown in storyboards, but we are told that yoda and palpatine fight with every conceivable item.
2. Anakin vs Obi-Wan: We see this both in actual footage but also in animation. The footing is blue screen and is very intense and we see 5 minutes worth in tunnels and rooms and bit like the rooms where Han is frozen in EMPIRE. We do not see an outcome.
Then we move to animation and then pop - it smacks you in the face of how he becomes Darth - VERY VERY VERY VERY BIG SPOILERS.
They are fighting on floating bays over a lava lake this is burning ferocious flames, they are crashing and falling over each other - and getting burnt. Again we do not see an outcome but if its anything like the animation then wow !!! My thoughts are that Anakin is very burnt and is re-built by the Emperor as Darth Vader.
At no point are we told that Padme is killed but we are told that she bears two children, we are shows the planet tattoine and told that the children are split up and LUKE is going to his uncle.
We are also show the last scene on Tatooine where we see two suns in the distance to signify the two kids
This was hugely impressive although I may not have remembered it all, but I did most and think it look great.
Then we are told that this movie answers and ties up all the questions for the last 20 years.
We are told that they will be two very very bad guys in this movie, but interestingly we are not told about Count Dooku - where is he in all this !!
The hint was that one of the baddies may be female - which would be interesting!
Here's a pic of one of the new baddies, General Grevious:

"Anakin will fail his challenge but it will cost him his soul." - GL
"...if you start with Star Wars, then Vader's just the villain, and that's it. But you don't realize that he's a human being, that he's got problems you don't realize that he could have been saved, that he was tricked and can be resurrected." - GL
Pieces of Darth Vader's armor will be seen on several different characters. It will all come together to make the final Vader armor. - C2
"The scene where Anakin does actually become Vader is pretty good. I mean, I like it. It's a little in the vocabulary of…I don't know how much I want to give away…but it's in the vocabulary of a time – of the 1930s and 1940s. It's a pretty neat little thing, I think, and hopefully it's going to work." - GL
"It's mostly Anakin in Ep3 as opposed to Vader" - GL
"George Lucas says 'When Anakin goes bionic -- that will be in the last five minutes of episode three -- they will hear you."- JEJ
James Earl Jones talks about his role being about 5 minutes in length, "right after Anakin goes bionic and falls into a volcano." - JEJ
In this film, you realize, it's more about Anakin making the wrong choices. He's given a glorious moment by George -- I'm so happy with part of the script -- where he truly has to make a choice. In the end, I think that's a smarter way to go than a slow transformation. It's more tragic this way." - Iain McCaig
"We will see Anakin doing more evil things a la slaughtering the Tuskens." - RM
"We will see more interaction between Anakin and Palpatine." - RM
Palpatine discusses a new assignment to Anakin in the Chancellor's Office. - OS
"We will see the emperor and/or Anakin make use of the dark side of the force with lightning, chokes and more." - RM
Hayden will look quite rugged and weathered after having fought in the Clone Wars for years. - OS
Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor show up in full wardrobe. Anakin's is in one of his Episode III looks -- according to the slate, they're shooting Hayden's "tidy" look. His "messy" look will come later. A scar added by makeup isn't reading well enough on the monitors, so Nikki Gooley and her crew thicken it up to make this particular trophy of the Clone Wars more visible. - OS

"Vader may have more screentime that originally anticipated." - RM

Anakin and Obi-Wan will be in an environment with "extreme wind". - OS

Anakin will fly a Jedi Starfighter. - OS
The reason for Anakin's facial scars will be explained in the novels that take place "between movies". - OS
Anakin will be wearing a headband while in his starfighter that is similar to the one used by Obi-Wan in the Jedi Starfighter in Ep2. During the scenes, Anakin's lines will be calling to other pilots, describing the battle around him and other reactions. - OS

Three words that Darth Vader speaks in Ep3 are "I don't fear..." - RM
The movie will explain all of Anakin's injuries except for one (the facial scar as noted in the recent HS set diary). - RM

When asked what color Anakin's lightsaber will be during the duel with Obi-Wan, Dan said to watch Ep4. -DG
Currently, there is no digital version of Darth Vader but there may be one designed in the future. -DG
In one scene, Anakin will be running from unseen dangers. George told Hayden he did not need to say his lines, only to look back and run like hell. -OS
Anakin will slide down the length of a ramp while attempting to control his descent and using his comlink for help. -OS
Anakin will be a Jedi Knight in Ep3, no longer a padawan. -PH
Anakin will meet with a Jedi instructor who is training 2 padawans. One padawan is a very young male and the other is a teenage female. - OS
We will immediately know why Obi-Wan referred to Anakin as "the best starpilot in the galaxy". -PE
"Anakin becomes pure evil....." -HC
Anakin is more or less in the entire film, in every scene in the movie. The character arc is very specific and graduates to the dark side nicely. It was a great part to play. It's definitely darker in tone but I turn into Darth Vader, so how could it not be?" - HC
Anakin does not have any scenes with Chewbacca. -HC
"Darth Vader's fighting style was the toughest [to choreograph]. The skill is mostly balance and having your feet in the right place." -NG
"You'll hear the (Vader) breathing. I do get to finalize my character arc, and where that ends up most people know." -HC
Anakin's fighting style will certainly change as the character goes further towards the dark side. -NG
Nick has seen Hayden in the Vader costume. -NG
Darth Vader will talk to people via hologram in Ep3. -OS
Nick's cameo Jedi character has long hair and will be seen facing off against Anakin. -NG
We will see Anakin committing more dark deeds, similar to the Tusken slaughter. The tastes and sensibilities of Star Wars are rooted in the 30s, and that might not satisfy the more graphic wants of modern audiences. That said, I was surprised by some of the things that are planned for in this movie. -PH
There are references to love (Anakin & Padme) in Ep3. -PH
Anakin will no longer be having petty arguments with his master. Anakin is very self-assured now. -PH
Vader will not use any of the buttons on his chest plate. -PH
There are important scenes between Anakin & Padme that play out between them that inform us about the nature of their marriage. Remember, it is secret, so the moments they have together will be snatched when they can be, against a background of a busy galaxy at war. -PH
Anakin's grisly demise at the end of the duel is set to be one of the most chilling moments in the entire saga. -NG
"Ewan McGregor can just do anything. I've known Ewan for years and whatever you give him to do, he can do it. I would have thought that no one could have become better than Ewan--after Phantom and Attack of the Clones, he just looked like the best. But Hayden learned fast and is now leagues ahead of everybody. He is terrifying!" -NG
Anakin's Jedi Starfighter has red coloring. The cockpit and the undercarriage are flat gray and gray-white. -PH

Anakin knows Padme is pregnant and expecting. -PH
Padmé's back to wearing disguises. As well as now hiding this marriage to a Jedi, which is not allowed, she has to hide the fact that she's going to have babies. All of the costumes had to disguise these facts." - Iain McCaig
The challenges with Padmé's costume designs were to create outfits that allowed her to be a senator and still hide the fact that she is pregnant. - TB
Padmé remains the Senator from Naboo. - OS
Padmé is a Senator throughout Ep3. - RM
Padme and Threepio will be in a scene looking out a window of a palace at something spectacular. - OS

One scene will be in "Padmé's Apartment" and we will see Padmé, Anakin and C-3PO. - OS

Another scene involved C-3PO and Padmé sitting at the controls of a Naboo starship with a cockpit that will resemble the one from the yacht seen in Ep2 when Anakin and Padmé flew to Geonosis. C-3PO will sit down in the scene. - OS
Though Padmé's screen time is less than that of Obi-Wan and Anakin, she will still have an important role and a fair amount of screen time. -PH
Given the nature of the involvement of Padme's family in Ep3, Pablo would be very surprised if their scenes were cut. -PH
"Padmé will not sit around all day, but she doesn't exactly wrestle a Nexu either." (regarding any action scenes) - PH
"Senator Bana Breemu helps put Padmé's mind at peace when she's in trouble." -Bai Ling
There are references to love (Anakin & Padme) in Ep3. -PH
Leia's recollections as described in Return of the Jedi have no inherent flaws and are valid given the greater context of the saga. But I suspect those looking for contradictions always find them. -PH
Padme's role is about the same size as that of Ep1. -PH
There are important scenes between Anakin & Padme that play out between them that inform us about the nature of their marriage. Remember, it is secret, so the moments they have together will be snatched when they can be, against a background of a busy galaxy at war. -PH

The classic saber of Ep4 Ben Kenobi will be among the sabers in use. - OS
The major focus is the breakdown in friendship between Obi-Wan and Anakin. - SW Insider
It won't be the special effects that make the Obi-Wan/Anakin duel so thrilling, it will be the betrayal. - RM
The lightsabers used by Obi-Wan and Anakin are ones we have seen before. - PH
The Anakin/Kenobi duel is a lengthy one and will span many sets and travel a lot of distance. - OS
One of the several settings for the duel with have red-gelled lights providing a glow to the set. - OS
The duel will be a fierce confrontation and will keep up the pace for a while. Some of the fighting will take place on an incline...and "Anakin is weak on a slope", as Nick Gillard pointed out in his webchat and meant it literally. - OS
Anakin and Obi-Wan's costumes will have discolorizations, cuts and burns from fighting and from their environment. - OS
Who is the aggressor and who is the defender will alternate during the duel. - OS
In one setting for the duel, Obi-Wan and Anakin will move over a large area but will careful of their footing. There will be "obstacles". - OS
At one point in the duel, Anakin and Obi-Wan will look off-screen at a distraction. Their eyes will be looking at different spots of this distraction itself. - OS
The duel will have a segment in a darkened room with a metallic surface with mechanical structures. And later the duel will move to isolated platforms. Anakin will circle his former master (Obi-Wan). -OS
During one point in the duel, either Anakin or Obi-Wan will swipe his lightsaber blade against an outcropping and sever it. -OS
The duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan is not a gentleman's duel. It will get nasty. -PH
During the duel there will be a segment when Anakin and Obi-Wan dangle from cables, swinging to and fro. The wires being used are supposed to be visible The Jedi will be wearing the "weathered and beaten" robes. -OS
At one point during the duel, debris will fall and one the characters will deflect it (likely with a lightsaber). -OS
Some of the words spoken during the duel "will cut as deeply as lightsabers". -OS
At one point during the duel, it will involve four characters. -OS
"The Epic duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan will be the longest lightsaber duel ever." - NG
"The duel involves some of the fastest dueling I have ever seen. It almost appears artificially sped-up. It's just that fast." - PH
There are parts of the duel when Anakin and Obi-Wan move even faster than the Maul/Obi-Wan duel in Ep1. -PH
Red-gel lighting provides atmosphere for the duel scenes. There are also flashes from strobe lights going off to signify an alert to some kind of hazard. -OS
Anakin and Obi-Wan will push their weapons into counter-tops and control panels and the FX Dept ignited squibs that burst to fill the frame and cover the actors with bright sparks and debris. -OS
The fight involves leaps and throws at an accelerated rate. -OS
Obi-Wan and Anakin have a moment where they collide with a control panel and land hard against a rough surface. The control panels and display screens have many unyielding protrusions. -OS
One huge wall has a very thick blast door rigged which is opened by chains. One character will open it using muscle power. - OS
Knowing what happens in Ep3 makes Paul see the classic trilogy in a new light. He specifically mentioned how he has a new understanding of the depth of friendship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. He now gets a lump in his throat when Vader strikes down Kenobi in Ep4. -PE
"The final fight sequence in this film should surpass any fight sequence that has been put on film so far. It’s the longest, I can’t give you specifics, but it is quite the bad-assed fight scene. Nick Gilliard has done an amazing job instilling an arc of story in the fight. It justifies, because you know Anakin and Obi-Wan have it out, but Anakin is the chosen one-he is supposed to be the best. But he comes out on the shorter end of the stick in the fight. It justifies it really nicely as the fight progresses." - HC
The Anakin/Obi-Wan duel is very fast, similar to the speed of the Obi-Wan/Darth Maul duel. -NG
"The climactic fight scene is, at 12 minutes, the longest fight scene in cinema history." -NG
The Anakin/Obi-Wan fight will be the longest SW fight ever. It is currently edited at 10-12 minutes. -NG
"I saw a pretty amazing fight scene between Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen. It's pretty sick. They did it all themselves. They were thinking of having stuntmen do it, but they were better than the stuntmen. It's pretty awesome." -NP
Obi-Wan of course defeats Anakin in Ep3, but winning one fight does not necessarily make one the best at it. -NG
As it stands now, the final duel will not be intercut with other action sequences, though that is subject to change. -NG
"Geographically, the duel covers the most distance of any other swordfight on film. And depending on the way they cut it, it should be the longest swordfight, timewise, that's ever been on film." - HC
As scripted, the final duel exhausts almost the entirety of the Jedi bag of tricks. -PH
There will be some dialogue during the duel. It is far more chattier than the Ep5 duel. -PH
The duel will occur on a brand new planet. But it's long been the stuff of legend, so obviously those who have been following the saga from its earliest days have some idea of what it will be like. -PH
"The duel is a monster of a sequence. I had a couple of years to think about it and think about what George had told me about it, and it was daunting because I knew how important that sequence is. I spent probably a year deconstructing the Jedi style of fighting to make it work. I had Hayden with me eight weeks before we started shooting it and I had Ewan six weeks, which wasn't really enough time, so we often had to rehearse at weekends during the filming. If it comes out like I saw it being shot, it's going to be phenominal." -NG
"The duel will explain how Obi-Wan is able to defeat his protege, even though Anakin has been established as the most powerful Jedi who ever lived. Obi-Wan taught Anakin and Anakin has gone past him. But when you get to that duel, it's emotional. That's where the mistake will be made. And if you know the characters, you know Obi-Wan isn't going to get emotional and he doesn't make mistakes." -NG
Anakin's grisly demise at the end of the duel is set to be one of the most chilling moments in the entire saga. -NG

Scenes
"There are a few scenes you will go nuts over." - GB
The last 3 pages of the script gave Rob Coleman goosebumps.
There is a sequence in Ep3 that makes Rob Coleman think "this is what I always wanted to see in the prequels".
Page 7, word twelve of the script is "trench". - JK
One scene will have an event that will cause glass to be shattered and scattered on the floor. - OS
We will hear classic camp Star Wars dialogue, similar to classic lines such as "foul stench" or "we meet again...". - OS
The Coruscant theater scene with Palpatine will not be intercut with other sequences. -PH
Scenes in a stretch of a Trade Federation starship corridor which includes steam, smoke, and shadows which will evoke the air of menace - at least in the final frames of the scene (or film). - OS
During the Anakin vs Obi-Wan duel there will be heavy winds in at least one setting. - OS
There will be a few tender moments of romance in the film. -PH
About 1/3 of the action sequences in the film will occur on the new planets where will we also see the most visually spectacular sequences. -RC
The reason the space battle in Ep3 will be bigger and more challenging than the ROTJ space battle is because this new space battle will be a journey and not a single event. -DG
The film will open with a thrilling space battle that pits the forces of the Republic against the battleships of the Separatists. -OS
The space battle that starts Episode III is long enough and complicated enough to be subdivided into four scenes for organizational purposes. -OS
The space battle covers the first 20 minutes of the film. -RB
The length of the opening shot, after the crawl has finished, to the first cut, will be around 3,768 frames in length. This works out at 157 seconds or 2 minutes 37 seconds long. It's purpose is to draw you into the action. -Homing Beacon / PH
The first 20 minutes is not all space battle. But the battle does kick off the first 20 minutes before moving into further action-packed territory. -PH
The opening space battle sequence includes starfighter trajectories, swarm of ships and aerobatic maneuvers. After the opening crawl of text the camera will move towards the warships, and its clear we're joining a battle already in progress. Geometry plays a vital role in determining allegiances in this space battle. As the camera dives between capital ships, it's easy to become disoriented. The Republic craft are the rectilinear wedge ships of the original trilogy. The Separatist vessels are more ovoid in shape, with smoother lines and reclined angles. The most familiar vessels amid the Separatist flotilla are the Trade Federation battleships, or the "donut ships" as they are affectionately called. Returning spacecraft, like the donut ships and vulture fighters, are getting a paintjob makeover, with colors and insignia further differentiating them from the Republic craft. We will see a missile with a specialized payload fly across the screen with flapping or fluttering wings. There will also be a different, new kind of missile shoot out from one of the Republic cruiser launch bays.
The Ep III space battle is definitely more dynamic, intense, and adrenaline-charged than the EP VI one, and has a more complicated design, more challenging shots, and benefits from having clear characters to follow as it progresses. I don't think those who are itching for a big space battle in Episode III will be disappointed. -PH
There's more variety of different types of ships in the Ep III space battle, but I'm not sure about the final numbers. The Episode VI battle will always have a certain greater dramatic impact, since it *is* the final battle of the series. -PH
The subsequent action scenes after the opening space battle, at any scale, areground-based, but there is air support, so there's still aerial action, even if it's not in the cold of space. -PH
The leaders of the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) will gather into a grimy and shopworn control room. -OS
One shot shows Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi lit by the slotted blinds of Yoda's quarters. This shot will last 8 seconds.
There were no multiple endings shot during principal photography. Everything pretty much went as to script, with variations in timing and performance. If something is decided to be changed it will happen during re-shoots. -PH
There may be some things that would be potentially controversial and some people may find offensive. -PH
There are no cantinas in Ep3. The most social scenes like that were in Ep2. Ep3 does have a bit of that, but nothing like a cantina. -PH
There are definitely scenes of large, elaborate scale in this movie, but the intriguing curveball of Episode III in this era of epic battle scenes is that the most impactful fight scene (to me anyway) involves just two combatants. -PH
If the Raider slaughter bothered you, then prepare for worse. -PH
Will we not see a lightsaber work underwater. -PH
We will not see many Jedi in the same shot together. The Jedi have got their clones now, so they don't need their numbers to fight en masse. Episode II will keep the distinction of having the most Jedi fighting in one place. -PH

"Boba will be in Episode III, but his role definitely won't be larger. He's in a transition period of becoming a bounty hunter. The next film takes place two or three years later, so Boba would only be 13 and still wouldn't fit in the suit." - GL

The intent is for Oliver Ford Davies (Sio Bibble) to return. -PH
There are several new creatures in Episode III, some helpful, some dangerous. Though I will say, the helpful ones outnumber the dangerous ones. -PH
The Mon Calamari character's costume is completely different than the one seen ROTJ and "It looks great". - TB
The Mon Calamari character has no lines. -PH
Tears will be shed by at least one character. -PH
Nick Gillard's Jedi character cameo in the film is appropriate, given all of Nick's work on the prequels so far. The character will have a suitable name as well. -PH
Nick's cameo Jedi character has long hair and will be seen facing off against Anakin. -NG
Nick's Jedi character cameo is only a few seconds. -NG
Nick's Jedi character's name is "Cin Drallig", his real name spelled backwards. -NG
Nick's Jedi character does not have a yellow lightsaber and he does not fight with more than one saber. -PH
I fully expect there to be CG Jedi. Pablo-Jill may possibly return. I don't know of any plans yet for other alien types, but since a CG-Jedi would entirely be a product of post-production, it's still quite possible we'll see new designs. -PH
The character who speaks the classic line, "I have a bad feeling about this" is one that has not spoken the line before. -PH
Dominique Chionchio and Gervais Koffi will play Jedi in EP3. -PH
Returning Jedi not already mentioned include Luminara Unduli, Barriss Offee, Shaak Ti, Bultar Swan, Stass Allie, Saesee Tiin, Agen Kolar and Kit Fisto.
We will see Rodians in Ep3, specifically Dar Wac, Palpatine's aide from Ep2. -PH
Sola, Pooja, Jobal, and Ryoo Naberrie will return for Ep3. -OS
