Also I'd like to point out that Skynyrd & Kiss didnt reform as they never split. Yes Kiss went back to older members & make up but to reform they woulda had to have split in the first place, kinda like when Ozzy or Dio rejoined Sabbath!
As bsams said,I dont for a second believe money would have been a motivation for a Beatles reunion as they had plenty of that, the big stumbling block was John & Paul with Ono making sure the rift was maintained and pushed further! Both George & Ringo worked with both guys while all four were alive, but John & Paul still maintained their distance. Paul,George & Ringo worked together on Free as a bird over Lennons vocals but I'm not so sure Lennon would have done the same had it been Paul who was killed!
I am not saying Ono didnt love John but she did everything she could to keep his feud with Paul alive & since John has died, she has sold off his possessions like they have no sentimental meaning to her at all!

"Why do you think a pair of millionaires like Lennon & McCartney would?"
Because rich people want to be even more rich!
Hell, you can argue Lennon sold out a bit in 1980 when he recorded his songs for DOUBLE FANTASY. Pure pop songs with some interesting lyrics. Where was his edge then? You know what I think...Lennon had lost his edge. He'd grown into being a husband and father.
Also, given how the Rolling Stones have "continued," the rivalry between the Stones and Beatles would have added pressure. Had Lennon lived, they would have joined up, at least once, for a big payday. And maybe even they would have done a little art, too.

Nowhereman stated wrongly again: "Also I'd like to point out that Skynyrd & Kiss didnt reform as they never split."
Skynyrd didn't split in the formal sense, but in the literal sense, they did. After the plane crash, several LS members reunited as the Rossington-Collins Band. At that point, LS was over. So what's been touring the states etc. since the early 90s is a reuinted Skynyrd.

Sure, I have no argument with this. You could put the Who in there, too, as they really never had that many top 40 hits. Or Yes, too.

I bought the Beatles Anthology when it came out on DVD recently.
I’ve watched it several times.
It’s really a wonderful time piece. It doesn’t seem that long ago and then at the same time, it almost seems like a myth now.
I saw them on the Sullivan show in 64 and still remember my family laughing at the hair.
Ten years later, EVERYONE looked like the Beatles.
I think they were a historical phenomenon, akin to a musical renaissance, and what they are or were (just a rock and roll band) transcended what they became.
They are GIANT cultural icons that we measure time against.
They were way bigger and meant way more than their music.
That said, I think the Beatles would have gotten together again if only… But there is no Beatles without John Lennon.
BTW if you’ve never seen Anthology you should.
George Harrison comes off best, hands down.
Goo goo ga joob.

Actually once again, you are wrong! There was never a split, the band was merely on hiatus while they decided what they were gonna do. The fact is that they worked as Skynyrd in the 80s as well! They had to decide whether it was disrespectful to continue & needed time to think about what was best!

Once again you are talking about the USA! The Who are a British band & had many hit singles in their native country! Zep,Sabbath & Floyd are also British but did not actually release singles for most of their careers!

Yeah, and once they did, they decided that Skynyrd was over. Hence the Rossington-Collins Band.

Actually, it was more of the legal red tape that kept them from being Skynard right off the bat. Van Zant's widow inherited his rights to the music and band title after his death. They spent a lot of time working out how the band would continue, if they did. This led to the 3 man clause. At least three of the original members must be in the band for them to record and tour under that name. IIRC, that rule isn't being enforced since only two original memebers now remain; yet, the band is still touring.

A legal split, a moral split, call it what you will. Lynyrd Skynrd did not exist until they all reached agreement to carry on the name in the late 80s.

There is a difference between a splitting the band & the band being on hiatus! There was never any intention of the band not reforming,it just all had to be worked out! Thats why its not a reunion, but a reformation, thats the big difference between them & a band like The Sex Pistols or The Monkees!
Other examples are Motley Crue & Bon Jovi. At points in their career the band members went their seperate ways without actually splitting the band, they just put the band on hiatus while they did other things! It cant possibly be a reunion if the band never actually split!

From www.skynyrd.com"The crash, which killed Ronnie VanZant, guitarist Steve Gaines, vocalist Cassie Gaines, road manager Dean Kilpatrick and seriously injured the rest of the band and crew, shattered Skynyrd's fast rising star as it cut a 500 foot path through the swamp. Lynyrd Skynyrd had met a sudden, tragic end." Notice it says, sadly, "tragic end," not "hiatus." Also, in an attempt to avoid Skynyrd comparisons, Rossington chose (his now wife) Dale Krantz as the R-C Band's vocalist. Now, you tell me...if they were just on hiatus as Skynyrd, why worry so much about vocal comparisons? Skynyrd originally ended in the Mississippi swamp. They reformed after the end of Skynyrd with Van Zandt's widow's approval provided that at least 3 original members had to be in the band to keep the Skynyrd name. With Leon Wilkeson's death, the question of the maintenance of the Skynyrd name is in question, since only Rossington and Billy Powell remain from the orignal band.

Well lets see, maybe just maybe they wanted the RC band to sound different to Skynyrd cause it was a different band! If you listen to any band that is a side project of another band, the solo stuff should sound different! Jon Bon Jovis stuff (with the exception of the Balze of glory CD) sounds vastly different to Bon Jovi the band! Nikki Sixx has produced stuff outside Motley Crue that sounds nothing like Motley Crue. The whole point being if you wanna sound like "Band X" why bother creating "Band Y",you might as well just stick to creating stuff for "Band X". RC was a side project until matters could be sorted.
