Oh. I'm sorry. I just thought you were doing your anal-rententive overplanning (as usual), deciding the entire process of getting to the dimension, who's going to be riding what, and where and how things will and will not work, and in what fashion everyone needs to be dressed. I didn't realize it was just "speculation".
That's the way I write fiction, Pro. I like to consider all the angles before leaping into any given situation, and while some of the angles will end up showing up in story form, the rest of them will be tossed out depending on how the story goes. It's the way I work best. You consider it "anal-retentive overplanning" -- I consider it the best way to weed out as many plot-holes as possible before they're written into the story in order to ensure that the story remains internally consistent. And despite that "anal-retentive overplanning" some things still manage to slip through, but I usually catch the worst problems first. I guess I'm kind of like Batman. I like to be prepared.
BTW, Hemingway was a complete nut for "anal-retentive overplanning" -- he used to write out his entire novel in a rough draft, then summarize it into 600-or-so words, then write out a second draft based on the summary rather than the first draft, then summarize THAT into about 1500 words, and then write out a third draft based on that summary, which he would then proofread and keep rewriting until he got it right. The summarizing part was done in order to ensure that his novel's plot remained internally consistent. He was truly insane, and while you may or may not like his style of writing, you can't pick his plots apart. He did the work in advance. I'm not comparing myself to Hemingway -- far from it -- but I think he set a good example of how to write an internally-consistent plot which I hope to learn from, even if I don't care to summarize and rewrite every single story or post I write here.

Pro, about going there disguised: I knew many would be upset, so I had just one or two character proposing that. But, let's see: 1) it's not that I propose it always, or it has been done to death. Until now, it was done just for issue 14, and they were exposed as they entered Mandelovia. But there was a good reason to trying that: they didn't want to be recognized as ally of D'Goon. The cover was blown out, and the world (ok, most of the world) now thinks they are bastards terrorists and such. 2) this time is even more important. Sam is hated, they didn't know what there is in the castle, they don't know what forces have to fight. They are 13 versus a whole world, at last at the beginning. For me, it's obvious that they have to do a recognition of the current situation before doing any strategy. I know Ozzie could go there and anything that happen, he will remain alive. My character not, and the same for most of the others. I think if they can get inside the walls without fighting, and sparing their forces for the inevitable battle until they are inside, it's better that to have to fight their way trough the wall. After all, their only air force power is the shit of a big bird. 3)About them being all different, I agree. I used the term gypsies to say that they are a wandering assemble of strange persons, performing acts to impress and entertain the rulers of the various kingdoms in exchange for shelter and foods (and moneys). I hope in that world there are different races (gnomes, dwarves, elves and such) so that Brianna could be presented as a member of a bird race, and things like that. Doc, about Euro as a public face. I used Euro for the reasons I put in the post, being him the first person to have been known to carry the gene, because he was a very loved sport champion (at last in Europe (for his birth), in the third world countries (because he was constantly beating the American champions) and in Latino America (because he was constantly beating Frederico, the Cuban that switched to America. ), because for his past he is accustomed to talk to media and because he is genuinely moved to work for metahuman freedom. Euro is a wanted person in the USA (for a crime he didn't perpretate and for the Zoo happenings) and in allied countries (like Italy, as I have shown), while in La Perdita is considered a dangerous person for various killing of thugs that were always recognized, in courts, as self defense. I am not forgetting that, and it's why Xiang told him they will have to rebuild his credibility and reputation. I am perfectly aware of that, and I will try to show how that will be accomplished. In any case, I am open for suggestions, and also for a big NO if it come from most of the writers. Gooz about the old table: the ugly object is on la Perdita, and will resurface some time from now, but for this story I don 't see a way to shove it up my ass. Jackie, very cool post for the Strikeforce. The plan sounds good, go for it. Please, to everybody that will post there, don't mess with Mandelovia City, Baron Zero or the Palace. The mission is in the desert, the underground and the sea. To everybody, about technology on the dark world. As I tried to imply in my last post, it's not a matter of technology stopping all of a sudden to work, it's the fact that they could not find replacements, fuels and such. How does the hoverchair of Drake works? If it has a nuclear battery or it's solar charged, no problem. If it's electrical, I don't see a way to recharge it, there. Better to find really a magic carpet, if that's the case! No problem into using the Stormloader, but it's worth the risk? They can't really use it for long, they will have to leave it in some place at the risk of being burned as a product of black magic or something like that, I guess.

A quick pic of the current line-up. The promised big picture of the current team will be slated for later, when we'll know who between Sam and Priest will stay and who will be the new characters of NotWedge (assuming Drake is really retiring) and T5. Left to right: Epicentre, Brianna, Danny, Drake, Mason, Phil, Adem, Tayden, Ozzie, Grimm, Priest and Euro

Very, very nice. Thinking about it we have:
Danny and Raptor as the last of the originals.
Grimm, Priest, Tayden, and Phil as representatives of the "second generation."
Drake and Brianna as the bridge between the older members and the noobs.
And Ozzy, Adem, Mason, and Epicenter as the aforementioned noobs.

My first post with most of the new characters. Mason Templar's becoming very infectious.
I just HAD to get a touch of Grissom and Jym in there. There's so much potential in that. Wish Griss was sticking around.

If it were just one thing, it might be possible to build up Ed's public persona to that which it once was. But when you add all that up together, mix in the current world view of metaterrorism from Naecken and the MBL, not to mention that the MBL has made public statements with a man masquerading as Ed's old Euro persona, it doesn't look good for the home team. Even if Raptor was aquitted in the courts of La Perdita on the grounds of self defense, that is still ammunition against him to suggest that he is a ruthless, blood-thristy meta. Let's face it. OJ has a better chance of winning over the public than Ed does.
It's hard to find a suitable public persona for the team. Grimm is the avatar of death as well as on the UN's shitlist. Ozzy is a gambler with ties to the criminal underworld. Brianna spent her teens years locked up and isn't really capable of dealing with the media. Phil is wanted in the US. Danny, Preist, Tayden, and Adem have no records or past prior to their associations with the team, thereby throwing more suspicion on them. Mason's a bit too brash to be doing public relations. And I don't feel that I have to explain why the B-Team isn't a good choice, either.
Dr. Huerta might be a good choice if it wasn't for his close, almost restraining ties to the rest of the B-Team. If it wasn't for the whole man with no past thing, Danny would be the obvious choice. Sam, if Gooz keeps him around, would do nicely. He's established and likeable. The only downside is if Merlin tries to spin the fire incident against Sam. Drake, once again if Notwedge keeps him around, is a fine choice. He's used to public speaking, has a history of being a well-known and liked protector prior to being bonded with Drax, and gets the sympathy vote for being in a wheelchair.
Probably the most strategic choice out of all the group would be Epicenter. Who better to counter Strikeforce propoganda than a former Strikeforce member?

Listen, as for this is how YOU write fiction: No shit! I've been writing with you long enough to recognize your methods, TTT. But, did it occur to you that me asking/planning about the lack of tech/non-working tech theories was simply the way I work?
And, to point, Hemingway's use of plot flow and narrative planning is great and all (even though I find 90% of his work insipid and bland), but, this isn't about you writing a solo novel TTT. It's a group thing. Thus, don't point fingers at me when I'm doing exactly the same thing you are doing, but with different words.

EURO :
(1) The pic is awesome. Well done.
(2) As for the disguise, I'll go with group consensus, as usual. All I'm asking for is variety.
(3) Why is Gooz attempting to shove a table up your ass?
PHIL : You DID see that in a SkyMall catalog. However, I killed the inventor, raped his offspring, and ate his heart for courage. Now it's MY technology. Don't think I wouldn't do the same to all of you. Except CJ. She's fun to talk to, and knows alot about sticking an arm up a bull's ass. Knowledge like that's hard to come by, you know....
I agree with Doc about Drake being a perfect public spokesperson. This would allow NotWedge to write Drake out (going to serve in the UN), and, yet, still have him as a valid, useful, and productive character within this universe. I think it would be fun to have the group sit around the TV some nights, watching Drake Marshall debate with others on C-SPAN. Besides, it strikes me that Marshall himself is almost infinitely more useful than Drax ever was. Worth a thought, anyway.

True.
In fact, on the short run for a media counterattack Epicenter is much more feasible than Euro. But in the long run, I still think Euro is a better choice. The point is that Euro is the only one, among them, that was well know BEFORE the metahuman question was born.
I don't plan to have him loved by the public, or stopping to be persona non-grata in the USA. I plan on have him put in a position where the world has to listen to him. Just that.
As for the issues that the USA have toward him, that's something I want to explore in my solo thread, using my various secondary characters, but surely not now, as I have little time. Maybe this summer.

Above I was replying to Doc.
Pro, the table refers to the old round table the team gathered around in the log cabin on the lake Michigan, in issue 0.
About NotWedge, yes, he could be a very good spokeperson for Vanguard. But it seems to me that NotWedge is retiring him, hell, judging by the title of of his solo story seems he's going to kill him. Anyway, I don't know if he would be willing to reveal his secret identity, seeing that he has a family waiting for us.
It's true that Ed has a son, too, but Eddie has the former Euro's power (intangibility) so he is basically untouchable.
In any case I don't see Euro being ready for the role Xiang asked him until the end of this summer. It's a role I want to carve very slowly, and maybe even not really for Vanguard, as for a more general representativity of metahuman instance in the world. I am still not sure.

I think, with their powers of persuasion, Kit Piper or Leslie Kline would be a good choice for Vanguard Media Liason. Leslie's mercenary history may not be that conducive, however, to such a role. Tayden, also, might be quite adept at such a role. Just some thoughts.
I realize, Euro, that you're trying to return Raptor back to the prominence that he once had, but that may not be the best decision for the team as a whole, due to his past as a drug addict/murderer. I can see someone trying to defame the team's cause using what happened while he was possessed by Ladnikia and, trust me, the whole "it wasn't my fault, I was possessed" line won't work on the media. Now, if you're looking to have the news media be at complete odds with the team, then Raptor would be a good choice. Otherwise, I'd say go with Tayden or Kit.
Just some thoughts...

My plan had been to kill Drake from the time of his creation, but I've moved away from that idea. He'll probably leave the team at the conclusion of the "Lost" story and I'll conclude the Drake/Drax seperation stuff in a solo thread (Or a side story thread if anyone else wants to join in). I have another character I'd like to move in as my full time team member. So far, only Grimm and Pro have heard about him (Pro would know even more if he'd READ HIS PMs! ). Drake would probably be willing to take a job of spokesman once he "retires". It'd probably take a bit of convincing for him to publicly reveal that he was Nightwatch. He WAS a vigilante so his actions weren't entirely legal and he'll have a family to think about by the time he gets back. Plus, the main reason why he kept his identity secret in those days was so it could be anyone wearing the costume, he didn't want to represent any one group. Of course, he's changed since then and his views have as well so I think he could be convinced. Does the fact that I write about my character as if he was a real person mean that I'm crazy?

As for Ms. Xiang choosing Euro, maybe thats part of her plan. I don't trust the bitch and neither should the team. She is soooooo funding the "MBL," I know it! TTT, remember how you hated Priest being on the team, because you didn't have all the answers, I feel this way about Ms. Xiang. A "WTF" has been over my head since she took over as President. At the end of this story, I will present a character to the team and offer their services to take over the position and they would also be "owned by the team" so to speak. No one would have full control over them. Ya know. Doc, as for Marlin trying to blame the Dawson fire on old Sammy, it wouldn't be possible. Asides from his young age, this family was well loved by the country AND the US. A lot of info about our favorite shapeshifter will be revealed soon enough... Do you see me hinting at anything?

Uhh... no. Don't go there. You are soooooooo way off. (Remember also that the Metahuman Brotherhood of Liberation is Grimm and Doc's plot -- I don't know what their plans are for the evil MBL, but I know Xiang has nothing to do with it.)

That's because you haven't been paying close enough attention. If you want a glimpse into her motives right away, go back and read the speech she gave to the team at the end of issue #11, and for a glimpse into her "secrets" read the post I wrote with Miss X and a certain Neanderthal (big frickin' hint there) in issue #14, just before the team leaves for Antarctica.
Anyway, wait for the Support Staff solo to make up your mind about her. She's intentionally mysterious (that's part of her allure, and I don't intend to reveal everything about her anyways), but her goals since day one have been to enable Vanguard to become the true "super-hero" team it should eventually be. She's not really difficult to understand, even though her entire past hasn't been laid out completely, because she laid out her goals with the team on the first day she was hired. They still hold true today.
In any case, she serves her purpose in the team stories, which is as a support staff -- no more, no less. To bring in YET another person to fill that role seems completely unnecessary to me, especially since we're moving away from having the Support Staffers as "stars" of the stories. They should only show up if/when the story calls for it, and only in a support function to the team which is relevant to the team-story's plot.
I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, but I only got 2 hours of sleep last night and I had classes since 8 AM this morning.

Does it, but my point is that like someone told the people that he is a murder, now someone could prove them he's not. I am referring to the murder of the prostitute, obviously. The killing of the thugs on La Perdita were real, but it's like with Vanguard, there are people happy that he did so, avenging the death of their relatives. As we'll see, propably Euro will be the most ashamed of all for those murders. It's not an easy matter, but I guess should be fun to explore.
In any case, if Drake is available, I too am for having him as a spokeperson for Vanguard.

Gooz, if you want another motivation for Xiang, I am giving it to you: REVENGE Xiang empire was destroyed by a disguised attack of the USA government all over the world (see issue 3) at her facilities, giving the blame to the Revolutionaries, as an answer to the destruction of both the MCCA and TriVex. The USA are the single, biggest anti-metahuman power in the world, so her struggle for metahuman liberation is also a way to get revenge over the ones that destroyed her empire. The chosing of Euro has to do with this, but don't have me spoiling all, please.

CJ: Great post! I really must thank you for inspiring me to write Ozzy like I should be writing him. Hope you enjoy the follow-up I did. This could be the start of a great tradition....

Euro: Good post! The ox-driven cart should come in handy as transportation on this medieval world. And I'm enjoying the new dynamics between Ed and Eddie -- we haven't really seen a full-time father/full-time "hero" in our collaborative stories before.
There's just one problem: Latisha doesn't talk. She hasn't said a word since she saw her mother killed in front of her eyes one year ago. Denyce (not "Jalisya") usually talks enough for the both of them, though.

Just one last post about the public face aspect thing. Euro, Gooz, there are three things you need to understand about public perception: - The truth is not always relevant.
- The tiniest bit of factual evidence can be distorted and used to build the largest of lies.
- No matter how big the lie, there will be people willing to listen to it.

That's true. Adolf Hitler made himself dictator of Germany by blaming the Reichstag fire on the Communists, thereby gaining "emergency" dictatorial powers (supposedly for 6 months) and using them to outlaw first the Communist Party and then all other opposition parties until no one in politics was left to oppose him.
And it turns out that Hitler's own Brownshirts were the ones who started the fire in the first place. It was all a ploy, but the people believed it due to the fear at the time of a Communist revolution happening in Germany.
BTW, Doc -- thanks for taking the initiative and getting the team over to the "Darkworld."

Just felt like it was time to get going. And I wanted to show that even though technology may or may not work there, the characters themselves may be affected in some way or another.

Supposedly posted by I'm Not Mister Mxypltk in the story: "Matthews is my surname..." Epicenter corrected, "And, yes, I'm ready. I'm just surprised that I was accepted into the team so quickly."
"Well, all your references checked up, and... what the hell, we do this stupid shit all the time." Danny said. Epicenter smiled and was about to laugh when he noticed Danny's expression was serious.

This made me laugh.

!!!!!
Who the fuck are you talking to Jason?! I don't give a shit if you are owner of the whole goddamn board. At what point have I offended you in any way, eh? At what point can I NOT state my opinion freely? I mean, you sat in my house last night and read exactly what you quoted. Oh, and funny....you didn't say a thing! Trying to look cool or in control for The Gang?
Delete this post if you want, but, I'll tell you like I would tell anyone that would attack me without cause: Fuck You!

Pro, I just need to point this out. When I write something like the following:

Note the " " -- it means I'm kidding. Don't take friendly jibes too seriously, man. I mean, I'll put up with insults like "anal-retentive overplanning" for only so long, and only because you're trying to quit smoking right now (I know how cranky smokers tend to be when they try that) and tend to overreact to stuff, y'know?

Oh bloody hell.
I'm sorry, TTT. I didn't realize that you...or Miss Grimm....were so thin-skinned. I mean, was it not you yourself who admitted that you have a tendency to 'over-plan', and that you tend to be 'anal-retentive' about such things? I pretty sure that I read that in a previous thread.
I didn't like what I read. Did I misread it? Perhaps. I stated my opinion. I stand by it.
You and I have always been fine, and I didn't see this as anything different than us debating personal grievances. I dislike 'fake manners'. I dislike two-faced deviousness (not pointing fingers at you). I will always state my opinions with open honesty. Hell, Euro and I have gone round and round in the past. And, I have always respected Euro for his complete honesty. It's happened before. It will happen again. I will NEVER say friendly or positive things to you guys, and turn around and personally bitch behind your backs. Everyone from Phil to Gooz to Chewy knows this. I have always been upfront about my feelings and opinions. At what point did it become too much for you guys? Scared of blunt honesty?
I will always state my unabashed opinion on the things I do and do not like around here.
If this is a problem, though, I need to hear it. Right now.
I want to know if my personal presence is too much for you guys. If so, then I'll kindly withdraw from this forum, and you can all go on your merry way.
Otherwise, I have very little patience for those who wear their emotions on their sleeves.
You guys decided.
Stay or go? It's that simple.

I will edit it as soon as possible. I knew I was forgetting something. as for the name, I read them two time to be sure, and then I mistaken them again. (see my last Christmas story post, too)

Well, I think with Merlin to have shown that I know it, no?

Should I say something about a pot and a kettle right about now? Nah, it's been overused. Or how about something from the New Testament... something about a speck of sawdust in someone's eye... can't quite remember how that goes. Oh well.
Pro, there are a lot of things I don't say on this board. Things that would have stirred up a shit-storm and most likely would have gotten me tossed out on my ass years ago. I don't (usually) say them because they're not very diplomatic and would lead to big arguments over what really amounts to nothing more than teeny, tiny little things in the greater scheme of things. It's more important that us writers can get along -- not perfectly, of course, since that would be unnatural, but enough in order to let the stories be written and still be fun.
For example: I realise now I should have just let the "overplanning" thing slide and remained silent about it, but I decided to go ahead and defend myself and the way I write. It wasn't intended in any way, shape or form to make myself seem better than you or the others but simply as a defensive thing, but you seemed to take it as if it was a reflection on you, which it wasn't. Hence I find that it's better that I just let things slide... most of the time. (This post is an exception.)
It would take a hell of a lot more than this to make me want you to leave, though. I consider you a friend and seriously the single best writer out of all of us, and I have always maintained that opinion of you. You're the John Lennon of the Message Board League (I would say "of TOMB," except I use "M.B.L." here as a description of the writers, not the characters), both because of your creative genius and your temperament.
But as everyone here knows by now, I find it really difficult to resist an argument, and I can't be both completely blunt with all of you and remain friends at the same time. I've always had a very critical eye and can pick apart almost anything, even things I like. I really enjoy debating issues, and I can get very nasty with the tactics I use. It's very easy for me to do that, but I try not to give in to that side of myself too often because it causes nothing but problems. And when it all boils down to it, I value the fun of reading and writing the stories a million times more than whether they're completely within the bounds of established continuity or whether some of the facts used in passing are true or not. The latter two are easy for me to spot, and they do grate on me a little (OK, a lot sometimes), but I usually let them slide because the posts or stories are so damn well-written and enjoyable to read. I recognise this critical, argumentative part of myself, and I see it in most others on this board as well (I'm not naming names). I'm just glad that most of the time we're NOT completely honest about our gut reactions on something, because most of the time those gut reactions are nasty and don't at all help with the writing.
So don't leave, Pro -- at least not over this. It's just a hiccup, not an explosion. I am being completely honest with you right now when I say that I love your writing, and I'd hate to lose that over something so minor in comparison, even though sometimes we get on each other's nerves.
(Plus, I really think the best way to continue our argument is in the story between Ozzy and Mason... )
