Godbolt stared down at the battle from his watchtower, the highest point of the fortress.

His Red Guard had the invading knights outnumbered, of that he was certain.

But this giant. This abomination of a creature from Jotunheim. This would present a difficulty.

Gaovulte's will flowed outwards through the castle, to the great black statues that kept watch over the surroundings.

Sam looked upwards at the southeast corner of the great square castle. He could have sworn something just moved.

His right arm lashed outwards, decapitating an approaching soldier. He ducked a sword swing and cut another man off at the knees.

He looked back up. Something had definitely moved.

Then he realised. The statue. The great black stone statue of the womanly figure that was at least sixty feet tall.

It wasn't just ornamental.

"Shit!" He yelled to the knight against whom he was now standing back to back.

"What?"

"That!"

The statue slowly became animated, first raising it's arms in a gesture that defied the very concept of stillness. It ducked its head forward slowly, tearing away from the grey stone of the castle. It pulled it's back away, leaving exposed grey brickwork behind it. Finally came the legs, tearing themselves up from the ground and stepping effortlessly over the outer wall.

The living statue dove forward and tackled Earl.

Earl was stunned as this statue that was as tall as he was grabbed him around the midsection and drove them both to the ground.

Seventeen men, from both sides of the conflict, died instantly as the weight of the two titans came crashing down upon them.

Earl rolled over and threw the weight of the statue to the side, breaking free of it's grasp. Blue jumped to the aid of his master and went for the statue's legs, finding his teeth disappointingly ineffectual against the thick, impenetrable stone of the statue's hide.

Earl kicked the statue once in the head with his great right foot, chipping off some of the stone and sending the statue sliding across the ground. The statue grabbed him by the foot and pulled him down, then stood up and drove a stone foot into Earl's back.

Blue's protective instinct kicked in. He dove at the statue, keeping him away from Earl.

"EVERYBODY BACK! AWAY FROM THE GIANTS!" Danny yelled. Sam echoed his instruction. The battle swept westwards, away from the dangerous clash of the two behemoths.
