"Batman: The Animated Series" was meant for kids. It aired on "Fox Kids" and "Kids WB," after all. It just so happens it was made to not be an audience-insulting kids show. X-Men (the original) was made in a similar fashion, but wasn't as effective for one reason or another.
The art is by Jeff Matsuda, who worked in comics for a bit and did character designs for "Jackie Chan Adventures," I believe.
I like the art. Bruce Timm can't have a monopoly on the DC characters forever...
