Continuity can become a problem in some cases, when it gets in the way of a particular story. If that happens, and if the writer doesn't agree with absolute continuity, what reason is there to follow it? Keeping a consistency with titles from ten or fifteen years ago?
I can understand why some people think like that, but you should understand that NOT EVERYONE THINKS LIKE THAT. Why should everyone follow your personal tastes? The absolute continuity you want leaves anything that doesn't respect it outside.
