However, I think it relevant that this group feels that Clarke and the Democrats are more interested in political and personal gain than the truth.
Democrats out for political gain...maybe. But Clarke, probably not. Clarke's made it clear that he's not looking for a cushy position (or any other postion) with the Kerry administration, should Kerry be elected. Nor will he be endorsing Kerry. Actually, as far as I can tell, he wants nothing to do with politics period. He said it on "Meet the Press" today that he's done with Washington. So I don't see Clarke out to further his political career with this book.
As for him making money on the book, he said that a substantial percentage of what the book makes will be donated to the families of the 9/11 victims and the families of American soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. I also heard him say on the news this morning that since his political career is over, he needs some way to support himself.
BTW, Clarke said something this morning that really struck me as odd. As a former government employee, Clarke was required to submit a copy of the book to the White House for them to approve before it could be published, and he did so. The White House (taking a very long time to do so) approved the book for publication. Any classified material they wanted taken out, Clarke took out. And now that the book has been published, they're out to discredit Clarke and his facts.
So here's what I don't get. If Clarke's facts weren't true or accurate, why did they approve the book for publication? If it is true, why are they trying to discredit him? What am I missing here?
