Because it involves neither Superman nor comic continuity.

Sorry but every time someone posts something negative about him you feel the need to defend him,so who is the one being assinine?

Whaa...? Apparently you haven't noticed all the times he gets slammed on this board that I DON'T respond. rexstardust insults him every time he mentions him, and I don't reply to him when he does it. In fact, I started on this thread talking about what music and entertainment is, and far as I can see, I've only just now gone away from that because you started ranting about his suicide, so I just said that I don't believe he did kill himself, and wondered how you could speak so familiarly of him(notice, I don't...I'm using research and evidence to decide whether I believe he committed suicide, not just some half-baked assumptions on what he felt like his entire life).

Quote:

And the reason I mentioned the pain & suffering bit is that when you have felt some, you get a better perspective on others pain & something as you can relate better, but you obviously decided to just overlook that point!

I'm not trying to delve into other people's pain, though. That's actually the opposite of what I'm doing. I'm pointing out that you trying to speak on behalf of Nirvana and grunge fans everywhere is really lame.

And actually, I have had some shitty stuff happen in my short life. I even listed some when I first made that post, then decided that it was none of your fucking business, so I edited them out. I don't think that just because I've had some fucked up things happen to me that I can speak on anybody else's behalf. Really, should I be able to say something about you, just because we've both had some bad things happen to us? I wonder how you'd feel if I suddenly told everybody what your motivation and inner thoughts are, and refused to believe that I could possibly be wrong in my evaluation.

Sorry but I used to be twelve years old once upon a time & I know for a fact that you dont know half as much as you think you do.
Wait til you've had more experience in life then you'll start to understand that people can be very persceptive of other peoples problems & inner psyche when they have gone through similar things or have a similar mindset.
A depressive is gonna know a hell of lot about a depressive than someone who's mind isnt that way inclined!

And one day you might also realise the meaning of hypocrisy.
One day you'll realise that knocking another persons opinion cause they think they are right is pretty much you doing exactly the same, cause you are trying to tell me I'm wrong & you're right!

What a shame I think Cobain was a blot on humanity & I really couldnt care less about a worthless prick who leaves behind a child by choice when my father wasnt even given that choice,he didnt get chance to get to know his two youngest children.

I have never said your opinion was wrong. I've said that what constitutes entertainment is subjective. I pointed out how you ripped others for thinking Kurt understood what they were going through, but you think you can speak about what Kurt did or didn't understand. I asked you how you could talk about what other people feel, to which you gave an answer, and I responded why I don't agree with doing that.

This is just an exchange of opinions--I haven't gotten the feeling that you're saying I'm wrong just because I disagree, and I didn't realize that I wasn't giving you that impression, either.

And that's terrible.

Whoa, 20 posts in an hour.

I don't think it's fair to call Kurt "weak" when he was clearly so drugged out of his mind for all we know he could have killed himself acting out some hallucination. It certainly wouldn't be the first time it's happened.

I didn't know the guy, so I won't pretend to understand his motivations or reasons for killing himself, if that is indeed what happened. However, as someone that's had to live with clinical depression, and who's come close to suicide in the past, I have a hard time rushing to the conclusion that he was a terrible and selfish person.

Well that in of itself proves he is weak...he made the choice to use drugs and fuck his brain up himself.

I'm not belittling you but this is my point,we have all felt pain in our soul, but the Nirvana generation always seemed to think theirs was so much worse.
The thing with the Ramones was they were always upbeat, they rebelled but didnt sink to depression & trying to bring other people down.
If you are "relating" to music it means its making you think more about the pain in your soul where it should be trying to relieve that pain!

Every time I hear Nirvana on the radio, it saddens me that people idolize this man and the mediocre music he made...

i equate nirvana to N'SYNC, there was nothing really overly artistic about it, it was formula. N'SYNC happ happy love love, which any teeny bopper can relate to so its easy to sell albums, Nirvanna did the woe is me life is awful formula shit that the other half of the teen experience is feeling for easy album sales, it wasnt art it was a marketing ploy.

im not saying you cant sing happy or sad without there being artistic merits to it, but these are 2 examples of blatant cookie cutter sales driven groups.....

N'Sync was a group put together by boy band guru Lou Pearlman. He just assembled a bunch of good looking guys with musical aspirations and gave them a theme. The recording label did the rest.

Nirvana was a group of friends that started playing together in their garage as teens. They played their own instruments(which N'Sync did not), wrote their own songs(which N'Sync did not), and passed their demo records around at local concerts hoping to catch the interest of some music exec.

I can understand why you think it's not good music, it's not for everybody....but a marketing ploy? I'm not seeing any connection with N'Sync, outside of the fact that they both sold a lot of records(and I guess that they're both all-male groups).

If the music of Nirvana is what Dave Grohl was into, why did he make a complete 360 with Foo Fighters and start producing happy music?

You mean 180. 360 would put you back where you started.

Thats an excellent point. I also think Foo Fighters are much better than Nirvana.

The earlier Foo Fighters stuff is quite angry. Over time, he's mellowed out. I think he's just come to terms with Kurt's death now is all.

Besides, lots of musicians are into music that's nothing like the kind of music they make themselves. Justin Timberlake is into Johnny Cash, Sum 41 worshipped Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, etc.

And that's terrible.

Do you remember rock'n'roll radio?

Do you remember Murray the K,
Alan Freed, and high energy?
It's the end, the end of the 70's

Do you remember lying in bed
With your covers pulled up over your head?
Radio playin' so one can see
We need change, we need it fast
Before rock's just part of the past
'Cause lately it all sounds the same to me

Oh-oh
Will you remember Jerry Lee, John Lennon, T. Rex and Ol' Moulty?

I like Foo Fighters a lot, too, but if you listen to their earlier stuff you'll see it's a lot like Nirvana.

Why the change? Well, for one, Dave changed, so naturally so did his music. Another reason is probably the simple fact that he didn't want to be accused of just continuing what Nirvana started. He wanted to have his own claim to fame. To be recognized as an individual rather than "the drummer from Nirvana".

You know what, Dumb, Marigold and Molly's Lips didn't sound like Nirvana, so I guess Kurt didn't get into Nirvana music, either.

Besides which, I think Monkey Wrench could easily be a Nirvana song. All you'd need is Kurt singing it. It's got the similar Pixies style of the verses paying off in emotional choruses. Just my opinion, though.

No, Monkey Wrench wasn't their first single. It was off their second album, The Colour and the Shape. They had a self-titled album in '95, and their first single was from it(I believe the song was "This is a call").

Since Grohl's contribution to Nirvana songwriting was only drums on the tracks where they co wrote the music, Foo Fighters songs where he provides guitar and lyrics (and possibly everything else, I know he wrote all of at least the first album which he actually recorded alone) would sound pretty different.

Also, most people enjoy more than one type of music.

Monkey wrench is very upbeat musically whereas every Nirvana song was downbeat (Even smells like...was musically downbeat, thats why it was called grunge).
